"Morning, Yanagi!" everyone in school chorused as they waved at me. "We'll have a football match against Tanaga and the other guys from class one after school. Wanna join us? Winning will be a sure thing if you come along."

Smugly, I replied, "I have to attend cram school today, sorry."

I pretended to skip off while everybody gazed at me in awe. My father was on TV yesterday. He was called the king of hotels. Girls in my class were talking about it. They asked me questions about it and of course I boasted about my father.

The teacher ambled into the classroom as everyone scrambled back to their seats and stopped chatting among themselves animatedly.

"Now I'll return your test papers. Come get your paper when your name is called," she announced and the class moaned with lethargic faces.

After calling out a few pupils' names, she said, "Here you are, Yanagi. Nice job again." the teacher was grinning from ear to ear as she handed me my paper.

I got a hundred marks again. Well, to me, it wasn't a big surprise. After all, I was the best in class. I muttered a word of thanks and stutted back to my seat, feeling as proud as a peacock.

I heard someone behind me praising that I was the only one who got full marks.

"Of course, who do you think I am?" I chuckled softly, looking down on them.

"Wow, I feel it's a matter of course when he speaks such offending words!" whispered one student in amusement. The class always looked up to me like I was the boss.

Now that I think of it, primary school was in fact the heyday of my life. My dad was the president of resort hotels. I was always on the top of my class, and champion in all sport meetings. Not to mention countless times being invited by talent scouts (but I rejected them as I had no intention to sell myself for a cheap price.). I was just like the king in my world!

Unfortunately, my happiness and pride were ephemeral. Then that girl appeared... The transfer student Kujou Mikoto.

"Let's welcome our new classmate," said the teacher.

She's nothing special and gloomy. She looks very poor and grew up in lower - class families.

That was my first impression of her. However, never in my life had I been so wrong before.
