“So, what do you think?” His mom asked him while they looked at the case displaying an iPhone 5. There it was, his dream phone, just minutes away from purchase. His father was beside him, though he was shorter, he had an authoritative air about him. He looked around the place at different gadgets in their respective glass cases.
Raza slid his hands on his pants pockets and thought. His mother held his arm smiling up at him while holding little Rhea on another hand who was frantic to go everywhere but her mother’s grip kept her in place. A salesman waited beside the glass case.
Raza pulled his Nokia phone from his pocket. Sure, it was about two years old; it was a wonder it lasted that long when he was itching to get it replaced when a new phone gets all the publicity.
He smiled while looking at the iPhone and then smiled at the salesman who also smiled back.
At the car on their way home, his mother looked at the backseat where Rhea and Raza were sitting. “Why did you change your mind? I thought you want it that bad.”
“I don’t know Mom, really.”
“But surely you could have taken the opportunity, Raza. Right Baba?” she said and turned on her seat to her husband who was driving.
“If he says he doesn’t want one. I won’t push him.”
“Yeah, Mom, it’s no big deal. I may want a new one next time. I just don’t want one now. Besides, I have my phone. They still look good as new.” He said as he watched the traffic and buildings blur through the closed window.
His mother smiled at his father conspiringly. One hand left the wheel and squeezed her hand briefly and he smiled back at her, and both knew their son had his vacation of a lifetime.
