"Do you want this?"
I look over to Andy who holds up a lime green top for me to look at. Without thinking, I reply.
"Oh definitely! I'll need that!" I say before he tossed it to me. I quickly fold it into a small square before packing it into my bag.
"Mad, what about this?" Felicity asks, drawing my attention to a denim shirt with white polka dots on the collar.
"Sure." I shrug, taking the shirt from her hands. I treat is similar to the last top and then I sit down on my bed, a whole new wave of realization sweeping over me.
"Maddie, if you don't want to keep this, I will definitely hang on to it for you. Something to remember you by," Felicity says, giggling as she turns around to reveal a crop top she pulled out of my drawer.
"Yeah, of course," I say, lacking the energy to laugh at her joke.
Quickly, she and Andy realize what is wrong.
"It's gonna be okay," Felicity says, rushing to come sit next to me on my bed. "We can talk on the phone and facetime and text whenever you want to!"
"Yeah and maybe we'll fly out to come see you!" Andy adds.
My parents recently got divorced. Or should I say my dad and my step monster of a "mother" recently got divorced. This divorce is why I'm packing with my two best friends' help. My dad thinks he needs to get away from this small area in Tennessee because it had been nothing but bad experiences for him in the last seven years. A "fresh start" is what he said we need.
I don't necessarily disagree with my dad, but I don't really want to leave my hometown where so many good friends and memories belong. Leaving everyone here will be so hard.
About two years after my mom died, my dad met the step-monster, Carol, and they married only six months later. And here we are only four years later and they are getting a divorce and me and dad are moving.
I'm not completely torn apart by the decision to move away because it will provide a new environment and serve as a growing experience, but leaving everyone I know and love behind will be hard.
"And who knows! You could meet a hot boy!" Felicity says, standing up and heading back to my dresser to pack more of my clothes into boxes.
"Or two!" Andy says with a wink, returning I what he was doing. I roll my eyes at both of them. Only a few seconds later, Andy speaks again. "You could use these to pick up some guys."
I turn to see Andy holding up a black lacy thong. I gape at him.
"Well, well, Maddie," Felicity says, giving me a smirk.
"Why you even have this? I thought you hated them?" Andy asks, laughing as he throws it in a box.
"Carla bought it for me," I say, rolling my eyes again. "She wants me to branch out."
"You wouldn't be the only one branching out if you wore these," Andy mumbles as he turns away from me. I choose to ignore his dirty comment.
After filling multiple boxes with my clothes and other important belongings (with Felicity taking quite a bit of my clothing), the three of us decide to head downstairs to eat.
"So are you ready for the party?" Andy asks, turning his attention away from the TV and to me.
"Heck yeah!" I reply, smiling at him as I stand up from the couch and take my plate to the kitchen.
