Avan's POV

"Dear diary today it's the first day of school. I'm dreading it. Hopefully it will be different. I'll smile and say 'I'm fine, thanks. I feel much better.' It's the only way I'll make it through...."

"How are you feeling?" Elena asked, I jumped. "Ugh you scared me. Um... I'll be fine. What did you write today?"

"Dear diary", Elena read.."Today will be a different. It has to be. I will smile and it will be believable. My smile will say "I'm fine thank you. Yes, I feel much better." I will no longer be the sad little girl who lost her parents. I will start fresh, be someone new. That's the only way I'll make it through." She finished.
"Insightful, very insightful." I joked
"Whatever" she said smiling slightly, "let's go or we'll be late for school."

"Fine fine." I said as I picked out a blue crop top, leather jacket, skinny jeans, and sandals. While Elena picked out a red short sleeved top and jeans. Elena and I have completely different styles. Along with completely different personalities. She's the smart, friendly, "likes to stay in her comfort zone" kind of girl. I'm the bitchy, confident, adventurous one.

We both head downstairs, to the kitchen to see aunt Jenna looking in the fridge.
"Toast, I can make toast." She says as she looks at Elena and I.
"It's all about the coffee aunt Jenna." I say as I pour the coffee. "Is there coffee?" Jeremy asks, making himself known, grabbing the mug out of my hands.
"It's your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?"
"No thanks" Elena and I say at once while Jeremy grabs it.
"Anything else? A number two pencil?" She jokes, " What am I missing?"
"Don't you have a big presentation today?" Elena asks
"I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at..... Now. Crap."
"Go. We'll be fine" Jenna smiles gratefully and walks out of the kitchen
"Are you ok?" Elena asks Jeremy
"Don't start"
"Jer..." I call, "Elena he just needs time."
"I know but he can't keep acting like nothing is wrong"
My phone beeps.
"I know. Let's not worry about it now Bonnie just texted. She's outside."

"So grams is telling me I'm psychic. Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that. Crazy right? But she's going on and on about it and I'm like put this woman in a home already......" Bonnie ranted
I looked over at Elena looking out the window as we passed the cemetery
I just sat back and played on my phone
"Elena! Avan! Back in the car." She laughed
"I did it again didn't I? I'm sorry Bonnie. You were telling me that...."
"She's psychic." I finished. Bonnie looked at me in the rearview mirror smirking.
"Hey I was listening I just act like I'm not so people stop talking to me." I smiled sweetly
"Hey!" Bonnie laughed
"I'm kidding I'm kidding. You know I love you Bon Bon. So predict something about Elena."
"I see...." That's when something hit the windshield and we swerved.
Elena and I looked at each other shocked.
"Oh my god, are you guys okay?"
"It's okay. I'm fine." Elena responded.
"It must have been like a bird or something. It came out of nowhere."
"Really. We can't be freaked out by cars for the rest of our lives." I responded
"I predict this year is going to be kick ass, and I predict all the sad and dark times are over and you guys are going to be beyond happy." Bonnie said happily as Elena and I smiled

The three of us walk down the hall to Bonnie's locker.
"Major lack of male real estate, look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beach. She looks hot.... Can I still say tranny mess?" I giggled
"No that's over." Elena joked as she leaned against one of the lockers
"Find a man, coin a phrase. It's a busy year." Bonnie said as she looked behind Elena.
Elena and I turned around seeing Matt staring at Elena. Elena waved but Matt just looked away.
"He hates me." She said sadly
"That's not hate, that's you dumped me but I'm too cool to show it and I'm secretly listening to air supply's greatest hits."
"Really Bon?"
"Well it's true." She whispered in my ear as Caroline walked up
"Oh my god! How are you? " Caroline said as she pulled Elena and I into a hug.. "It's so good to see you! How are they? Are they good?" She asked Bonnie
"Caroline were right here." I said as I rolled my eyes
"We're fine, thank you." Elena tried to say nicely
"Really?"
"Yes much better"
"Ugh you poor thing." She pulled me into another hug
"Ugh ok Caroline" she finally let go
"See you guys later!"
I looked at Bonnie the same time Elena did
".... No comment." I laughed
I walked off to go find Jeremy. When I did I saw him by the stoner pit handing Vicki pills. I walked up to him.
"Jer! If Elena catches you...."
"She's not going to calm down."
I gave him a look as if to say "she better not".
"Hey Vic." I gave her a hug. Her and I used to be close as kids not as much anymore but we still talk. Elena doesn't like her as much. Tyler walked up and kissed Vicki right in front of Jeremy. Poor Jer.
"Hey Vick. I knew I'd find you here with the crack heads."
Jeremy made some joke about a "Carson daily" thing Tyler was involved in. Tyler went to get in his face.
"Hey Ty be nice. That's Avan's little brother." Vicky said
"I know he is but I can still kick his ass."
"And I can still kick yours." I said smirking. Tyler glared.
"See you guys later I'm gonna find Elena." I walked away smirking.
I found Elena walking out of the guys bathroom but before I could say anything she bumped into this guy I didn't know.
"Uh..pardon me." I heard him say.." Is this the men's room."
"Yes. I was just um-I was just- it's a long story." She stuttered out. As she went to walk past him he went the same way and then she moves the other way and he did the same until he finally let her pass like a gentleman. Aw. She walked up to me and grabbed my arm and dragged me around the corner.
"Oh my god! Elena! Are you dumb? Why didn't you at least ask for his name?"
"I don't know! I panicked." She replied
"Ugh were talking about this later! We're gonna be late to asshats class, a.k.a. Mr. tanner."
