Calen was the first to react to the voice, but he didn't turn defensive. He didn't pull up his gun to aim it at the person who snuck up on us, even though I thought he should have. Why would he? He would've recognized this voice even if he hadn't turned around to face her. Her. Yeah, it's a her. A certain her. A she-demon, one I hated with a passion. One who my brother still had feelings for, it was painstakingly obvious in his eyes. One who broke his heart into a billion tiny pieces, and didn't even care.
"Why weren't you the first to go?" I asked in a courteous tone. She gave me a mind-your-own-business-you-stupid-child look. "And of all the people to find, why'd it have to be you?"
"Missed you too, Alessa," she replies through gritted teeth. "How I missed seeing you. Every. Single. Day."
"Enough," Calen told Amy, his ex-girlfriend.
Amy replied caustically, "You're the one who found me. So you should be thankful I'm going to give you refuge!"
"We don't need your help," I replied back just as coldly.
Calen put his hand on my shoulder, like I'm his dog or something. No, Calen, I don't want to calm down!
"Amy, we didn't come here for you." Amy got this look on her face as if Calen slapped her, which he most certainly didn't. She left him. It isn't fair she gets to act like the victim in this! She most definitely isn't. "We came here searching for answers."
"To what? Maybe I can help."
Snorting, I replied, "I highly doubt it." She gave me another cold look as Calen got between us. She's lucky too, I could take her.
"You wouldn't understand," Calen told her. I smiled. I can now die a happy person after seeing the look on her face. "It's complicated."
"Always choosing her over me, I see. Some things will never change." What the hell is she going on about? "It would make sense that you're family's dead and the only survivors are you two. How ironic."
"My family isn't dead!" I yelled back. She took two cautious steps back. "You don't know the first thing-"
"I happen to know a hell of a lot more than you think," she replied through gritted teeth.
Calen shook his head; he was starting to get frustrated. I didn't blame him. Having to see a crazy psychotic ex-girlfriend would have the same effect on anybody. "Amy," he started, but she gave him a stony look which shut him right up.
"Don't Amy me!" She glared at him for all she was worth, which wasn't much. "I'm tired of you Amy-ing me! Don't you think I should've come first once in a while?!"
"You clearly don't understand, or listened to a single word I've told you. We're done having the same fight over and over. It's a waste of both of our times." Wow, who knew Calen could be so cold? That was usually me. "Isn't this what you said to me when you dumped me?"
"You always chose her over me!"
"She's my sister, I don't know what you expected." He shrugged. Now he was becoming indifferent to the whole thing to hide his pain. I saw right through him though. Amy didn't. All she saw was he was annoyed and tired of her. And at this moment was when her eyes changed. Her whole body changed. It was kind of like watching a ripple go through her entire body, or I could've imagined it. But I highly doubt it. Calen didn't notice or paid no attention to her. "You know what she was going through, you knew I had to be there for her-" She attacked him.
Claws, which appeared out of nowhere, were attempting to rip off his face. Her whole posture turned more animalistic as she jumped at Calen. He was surprised and went down quickly and hard. I watched his head bounce off the concrete floor. He's still alive and awake though, which is extremely good. He's still in shock though and not fighting her off. Amy's mouth opens and reveals sharper teeth than she had before, yet not all pointy and vampire-like. They definitely weren't sharks teeth, by any means. But they were still sharper than I remembered. And they were trying to bite my brother's face off, who was still having a hard time fending her off. I took matters into my own hands.
