distance

Getting in my old dusty truck, I drove to campus. No matter how much I didn't want to be here, I needed to find myself a good career. Plus, my mom was always annoying me about being the first child in the family generation to go to college so I better not fail.

Each classes went by quickly. Each day was a pattern. It would either go by slow or go by fast. Obviously fast days were the ones I enjoyed the most.

I texted my best friend to come pick me up because my truck ended up not even starting just for my luck.

yeah we just wrapped up rehearsals. be there in ten.

I sat down on the bench in front of the front entrance of the campus. I tried to stay warm but the snow falling everywhere was freezing my body. Jackets suck.

"Hurry! Get in." I heard Jack shout from his car window. I quickly rushed to the passenger side and shut the door. "You gotta get yourself a new car."

"Can't afford it." I shrugged.

"Right, I'm sorry." Jack apologized. "Wanna grab a bite?"

"Yes please I'm starving." I said. "So how was rehearsals? You excited to tour?" I asked him.

"Super excited. Me and Johnson have been working our butts off."

"That's good. Better not miss me too much." I laughed a little.

"Hm, I'll try not to." Jack laughed a little as well.

We ended up getting to-go food from chipotle. As Jack was driving off, he asked me to just chill at his house so I agreed.

"Please stop." I whined as he kept trying to take a bite out of my burrito. "Fatty."

He pulled up his shirt, "does it look fat over here babe?"

I rolled my eyes and threw the trash away. I flopped down on gilinsky's bed and getting myself under the covers. Even his house was freezing.

"So how's college?" He asked as he laid down next to me.

"It's okay. I have good grades so far but I'm nervous I'll get distracted." I sighed.

"You won't get distracted. Just don't let others stress you out." Jack said and grabbed his laptop from the side of the bed.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Twitter." He replied. I nodded and watched as he interacted with all of his fans.

"Alright Rylie, before I tell you this, promise me you won't be mad." Jack said.

I pulled myself up, "what is it J?"

"So the tour was extended and since more dates were added, we'll be all over the country and instead of two months, it's now six months." Jack looked down.

"Six months.. Please tell me you're joking Jack." I stood all the way up and crossed my arms.

He stood up also, "I'm not joking Ry. I'm sorry. Unless you want to come on tour with us." He suggested.

I shook my head, "No. I can't miss school for a tour I'm sorry. But six months without seeing my best friend is going to be the hardest thing ever." I looked down but he pulled my chin up.

"Hey, we'll figure out a way to keep our friendship close as ever alright? Don't stress out about this too much." He kissed my forehead and wrapped his arms around my body.

"What if we don't?"

"Don't think that Ry. Our friendship is probably the strongest friendship out there. Me, you and Johnson." He kept his arms around me.

I sighed, "you better call me every single night and morning."

"I'll call you more than that. Now help me pack." He said as we spent hours finishing packing his stuff.

"When do you leave?" I asked.

"Two days."

"Oh."

"Rylie. Don't. Stress. Out." He said word by word.

"I'm not but there's gonna be so much distance between us. I'll miss my best friend too much."

"It'll be over before you know it. I won't let distance stop our friendship."
