Chapter 3: new school, new start

i sighed, and rolled out of bed, bright light streaming in from the large window in my currently bare room. the walls had been painted an odd shade of off white, almost like the paint had been used to cover up stains the previous owner had left. it was only 7am, and I already didn't like this place. I headed down the stairs into the kitchen to quickly eat breakfast, before I planned my outfit for the day. since we had just moved from Minnesota, I'd be starting a new high school today- as a freshman. I headed back up to my room, tearing open the moving box titled 'Brooke's clothes' and pulled out my black skinny jeans, a wardrobe staple for me, while deciding to wear my new cropped sleeveless white band shirt. I threw on a black oversized hoodie, laced up my floral converse and ran out the door.
as I approached my new high school, and gazed at the stone building, dread settled in my stomach. The school looked like a prison. It was square and boxy, with a total of 5 rectangular windows on the exterior. I set off toward the school office, following the poorly marked school halls until I found a room that looked vaguely administrative. I slung my Victoria's Secret bag onto a chair, sat down- and waited for the principal.
he was a stout, balding man, with a ruddy complexion but a kind smile.
'Brooke Faye?' He asked, sitting down and grinning. I responded with a small smile, confirming my name and showing him my letter of enrolment. The principal introduced himself as Mr eguini, and shook my hand. After inquiring about my time in Minnesota,
he then told me that he had assigned a student to show me around the school. As he left the office, I waited in apprehension for my 'tour guide'- but when she arrived- she was nothing like I expected.
