Call of Duty: Black Ops III is an upcoming 2015 video game, developed by and published by . On April 9, 2015, Activision released a teaser entitled #backinblack, later confirming it to be a new entry in the Black Ops story arc and that the game will be released in 2015. The game is set in a "dark, twisted future".
Teasers have been released beginning with Snapchat links appearing in the gameplay of Black Ops II as well as a teaser video released by Treyarch and analyzed repeatedly within its first 24 hours of release. On April 26, 2015, the first reveal trailer for the game was released and revealed the return of the Zombies mode and beta access for people that pre-order the game for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will be released on November 6, 2015.

Before being switched to become the co-developers of Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer Games were already working on a Call of Duty game. This game was announced before Modern Warfare 3 and after Black Ops, however, no details were released. The game was said to be an action-adventure first-person shooter video game. A Call of Duty was also rumored to be in development. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg later stated that Modern Warfare 3 was not the same title as Sledgehammer Games' action-adventure Call of Duty game. When asked if the action-adventure game was also in development, Hirshberg then stated that the Sledgehammer team was fully focused on Modern Warfare 3 and that their own title had been put on hold.
Rotation
In 2006, Treyarch launched their first official Call of Duty game to the main series, Call of Duty 3 and is now a primary developing team for the series. Treyarch and Infinity Ward went by a contract to confirm that there will be a rotation every year of who produces the next upcoming title. In 2010, Sledgehammer Games announced they were working on a title to appear in the main series of Call of Duty. This game was postponed in order to help Infinity Ward produce Modern Warfare 3. In 2014, it was confirmed that Sledgehammer Games would produce the 2014 title, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Instead of the two-year rotation between Infinity Ward and Treyarch, there is now a three-year rotation starting from Infinity Ward, Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013), Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (2014), and Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops III(2015).
