Dan's POV

I ordered two coffees from the shop, as usual. It was morning, and I always loved to be up first. I would go out early when the sun would just begin to rise, and breath in the fresh air of the quaint little town I lived in.

But I always made it back home as quickly as I could, in hopes that he would still be sleeping when I got back. Today, he was.

I stepped quietly back inside of my small home, where I lived with him. I placed our coffees down on the table and tiptoed into our room.

Phil was still laying silently in bed, his black hair messy and his kind face shut down. He looked calm, peaceful, handsome. Human.

Human.

When I met Phil, just months ago, he was not human. Cursed years ago, Phil had to live as a vampire - alone, saddened, and undead. He was immortal, and he revealed to me that everyone he knew had died out as he didn't age. He was freed by the curse when I came into his life, and when we fell in love.

Now, he looked healthier, and we've lived together since. I've never been happier or more in love with someone.

I leaned close to him, silently breathing in a light sleep. Unable to resist, I kissed his forehead and smiled.

A smile crept on his face. He was awake.

"Did you get the coffee?" he whispered.

"Yes. Good morning, by the way."

He lazily scratched his head and yawned. "Good morning."

Phil sat up and brought his face close to mine for a kiss. I put my first two fingers to his lips instead.

"Brush your teeth," I said cutely. "Morning breath."

He pouted at me. I giggled. "Alright," he gave in, stretching his body and getting up.

I watched him stumble to clean up. He was precious, and so important to me. I was the one who freed him from the curse, but to me, it felt like it was him who freed me.

Phil's POV

I always knew when Dan was leaving the house in the morning. Sometimes, I let him believe I was still sleeping. I liked when he greeted me with a kiss. He would tease me and make me do something first sometimes. I didn't mind - I found it adorable.

After cleaning out my mouth, Dan finally let me kiss him. A nice, long and loving kiss. He handed me my coffee.

"Thank you," I said.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Despite my past, I lived the perfect present. When I was alone for so long, I had made myself certain that I would never find anyone who wanted to be friends with me, never mind love me. Dan was different from the other humans who ran from me or threatened to kill me. He stayed with me, and tried to understand me. He gave me a chance. It was all I ever wanted. He didn't have to fall in love with me, but he did. He saved me.

Dan and I decided to go for a walk this morning - or afternoon, by now. He tightly had his fingers laced with mine as we walked. He seemed to be so self conscious about liking guys before, but I assured him it was okay. The people of our town don't seem to mind either, which also brought up his confidence.

On our walk, Dan's old friend Cynthia passed us by, a blank and slightly disappointed look on her face.

"Hey CC," Dan called to her. "What's up?"

"Ugh," she pouted. "Great. So the werewolf stories turned out to be fakes as well."

Dan laughed. "Of course they were. Out of all those ridiculous stories that the people tell here, I guess only one turned out to be true," he said quietly. Me being an ex-vampire was a secret that only he and Cynthia knew.

"Why do you get the cute vampire boyfriend and I get nothing?"

"Are you really relying on a mythical creature for a date-mate? Aren't humans enough for you?" Dan couldn't help chuckling.

She too smiled. "We'll see about that," she declared.

My fingers squeezed his hand tightly as she walked back toward her house was. "Dan," I said. "If I were never a vampire, but we still met in the same way, would you still love me?"

"You being a vampire had nothing to do with it," he said with a grin. "I love you for you, alright? And that wont ever change."

It wont. I knew it wouldn't ever.
