Phil's POV
Dan cried! He couldn't move, but he cried! It was a sign! I knew there was something wrong!
I ducked down below the window to stay out of Storm's vision. She was already lost in looking at Dan, so I figured she may forget me for a moment. I pulled apart some looser rocks near the bottom to create my own window, so that I would still be able to see.
Storm was uncomfortably close to Dan. I began listening to her speak.
"He's gone," she told him. "He's gone now. It's okay. You'll be here with me. It's time the one I love do me a tiny favor and give me my mortality back."
She sat gently on his lap. My throat let out a small growl as I watched her touch his head. He was blankly fretting, and still in tears from his odd paralyzed body and immobility.
"I love you, Dan. I know you love me too."
My eyes shut in pain as she locked lips with him. With my boyfriend. My lover. My Dan. Dan's eyes screamed "No," but Storm continued to kiss.
She pulled back, smiling. She looked at her hands and arms, then got up and ran to a hand-held mirror. She frowned.
"How long is it supposed to take?"
As she began to worry, I pulled rocks down from the wall one at a time, slowly opening a bigger window.
"No, wait! Maybe I did it wrong."
Rocks slipped down with ease until there was a big enough hole for me to climb through. When she was turned around, I stepped in as quietly as possible.
Tears formed on the lids of Storm's eyes. "No, Dan, I know it will work! It's in the words of the curse! 'A mortal's love... sealed with a kiss...' Why isn't it working?"
I tip-toed through the cave, keeping my back to the wall.
"Dan," she said to him. She was directly in front of me, her back facing me. I held my breath in fear, but exhaled in bravery. "Is it true what that ex-vampire said?"
"Yep," I answered.
Storm spun around in shock to see me. I lunged at her, tackling her to the ground of the cave. She let out a vicious scream. She squirmed beneath me.
"You're going to pay, you mortal!" Storm bared her fangs at me. She pushed me off of her, and held my arms to the floor. Storm lowered her head to me, and pierced my neck with her fangs.
I gasped in excruciating pain. It felt like two tiny bullets stabbing at the side of my neck, burning and killing me. She pulled off of me, wiping her mouth. As she stood up, I was left on the floor, shaking and coughing, unable to breath. I slapped my hand over the two wounds and pulled it off to see it was covered in blood. Memories of the time I had been bitten before flooded me, and I realized it was over. Blood spilled from my neck, but I kept a hand over it to hold it back.
Dan's POV
My entire body felt like it was going to explode. I had gained feeling in my fingers and the were twitching wildly, but it wasn't enough. I still couldn't move, and Phil was right in front me, bleeding and shaking in pain. I was screaming in my head.
Storm laughed. "Disgusting," she spat. She leaned close to me and viciously kissed my lips quickly. Once, twice, again and again. She was about to cry. "Why? Why isn't it...?" She twisted to see Phil still suffering. "You," she said. "Don't be such a baby. But... what you said." She began speaking slowly. "Dan loves you, doesn't he?"
Phil only shifted his eyes to her. Everything slowed down.
Storm looked back and forth between us. She began whispering to herself. Her hands covered her mouth. "But...."
"G-give it... up," Phil stuttered, still shaking and coughing. He looked as if he could barely breath. "You l-lost. It's n-n-never going to... work."
Storm's eyes widened. She covered her face.
"D-Dan doesn't," he choked, "love... y-you."
Finally, I think, she believed him.
