After finishing up the work, I say goodbye to Chase and head to my room to do something that I haven't done since I got here. I grab my guitar and head to the roof. I sit down on my favourite bench under the greenhouse which faces the ocean. I find my old notebook filled with songs that I have written over the years. I open a blank page and then start to play. Ages later, my ass is numb from not moving and the sun has started to set. I finished working on the music and now I am trying out some lyrics but it's not going very well. I hear the roof door open and I see Kyle walking over to me. I smile.
"Hey, what are you doing here?"
"Looking for you. I texted you but you never replied." Oh whoops.
"Sorry. Kind of got distracted."
"I can see that. I didn't know you could play." He sits down on the bench opposite me.
"Uh, yeah. I sing too. I mean I don't know if I'm any good. I haven't actually played in front of anyone since I was little." It was actually at a talent show that I last performed in front of people. Mom showed up halfway through my performance and everyone moved their attention onto her. But what really ruined it was when the paparazzi showed up and started photographing her and she left me there. I had to wait around for hours before the school finally managed to get a hold of Marta to come and pick me up.
"So what were you playing?"
"I was trying to write something but I was struggling with the lyrics."
"Can I take a look?" I nod and nervously hand it over to him. "What is it about?"
"My mom." I say sadly.
"You've never mentioned her before." He moves over to sit next to me.
"Yeah, I guess I haven't." I shrug. "We aren't very close. I have to go and see her this weekend though."
"That sucks."
"Yeah it does." I rest my head on his shoulder and we sit there for a while in a peaceful silence.
"Wanna come and sit with my friends at dinner?" Kyle suggests. My stomach growls making me realise how hungry I am.
"Sounds good, let's just drop off my guitar first."
I feel a bit better after talking to Kyle about my mom. Here was there when I needed him. When I came to Gracewood I wasn't really thinking about relationships after everything that happened with Alex, but I can't help but feel happy about meeting Kyle. I'm just worried because sometimes I feel like more like he is a friends than a boyfriend. He is so kind and sweet to be, but sometimes I feel like we are lacking passion. Whereas Chase and I have too much passion but then he acts like a jerk. Wait, why am I thinking about Chase? I am with Kyle. I am happy with Kyle. I think.
We walk into the cafeteria and go straight in line. I am kind of nervous. I haven't actually met any of Kyle's friends yet. But then again Kyle hasn't really hung out with my friends either. We walk over to a table where two guys and a girl are sitting.
"Hey guys!" Kyle sits down and I take a seat next to him. "This is Hope."
"Hi." I awkwardly wave at them.
"Hope, this is Jason." He points to a tall guy with curly black hair. He then points to the other guy who has bright blue eyes and light brown hair and a girl with short bleach blonde hair which has been dip dyed bright pink on the ends. "And this is Jack and Chloe."
"Finally a girl! I mean I love these guys but you need a girl to talk to sometimes, you know?" she rambles excitedly.
I laugh. "I know what you mean. I had the same issue until I met my friend Anna."
"The hot red head?" she questions.
"Uh, yeah?" I guess.
"Any chance she is in to girls?"
"Uh, I don't think so. Sorry." I laugh.
"Damn. Why are all the hot girls straight?" she sighs. I like this girl already.
"Then you are just going to have to stick to guys." Jack joins in.
"Oh well. The guys here are hot too." I look at Kyle and smile. He is hot.
"Are you talking about me?" Chase sits down.
She rolls her eyes. "Ugh, of course everything is about you, Chase." She responds sarcastically. Now I really like her.
"What are you doing here Carter?" he ignores Chloe's comment.
"Kyle asked me to join. Have a problem with that Evans?"
"Are you two still fighting?" Kyle looks at us.
"Wait. Are you the girl who broke his nose?" Jack interrupts.
"Almost. She almost broke my nose." He corrects.
"I like you already." Jack announces.
I guess I didn't have anything to worry about after all.
