I got my SAT results 2 weeks later. I ran up to Abby as soon as I got to school the next day. "You are amazing!" I practically shouted, "I got my SAT results last night."

"Oh my gosh, me too," Abby said, "How did you do?"

"I got 1800," I said, "My parents are singing your praises."

"That's amazing!" Abby said, "I got 1950."

"Show off," I joked, "We seriously need to celebrate."

"Definitely," Abby said, "Why don't you come up with something, and then you can tell me in the hall before study hall?"

"Deal," I said. I was so excited, I never ever noticed the date.

Later that day I met her by her English class door, ready to walk with her to the library. "Okay, so I'm thinking of taking you to that dumb spy movie that's in theaters right now.

"The one with Matt Damon?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Exactly," I said, "Then milkshakes after."

"Sounds like a date," Abby said, "Oh, so we're going to Prom together right?"

"Of course," I said without thinking. It seemed simple.

"Good, because I just got us..." she held up two tickets, "Our tickets to prom."

"Sweet," I said, holding the Library door open for her.

"Annnd," Bobby said, approaching us looking at his watch, "Time. You my friend are now free."

"What?" I asked, confused.

"It's been 2 months. You get Cassidy," Bobby said with a smile, "You made it."

"What's he talking about?" Abby asked. As she asked, a rock formed in my throat.

"He made a bet with me, sweetheart. I'm sorry he never told you. He had to date the most dateable person in school for 2 months, and then he is free to take Cassidy Page to prom," Bobby said.

Abby looked at me, "Is that true?"

"I-uh, it, I," I stammered Abby shook her head, tears forming in her eyes.

"You are a jerk," she said, "You only dated me for the end game?"

"At the start," I said, "But now its different."

"Why should I believe you?" Abby asked, "Tell me Will, did anything matter to you about us? Huh?"

"You mattered," I said, "Please Abby. I-"

"Save it," she said, "I can't believe I was just some pawn to you."

"You weren't," I said, "Please-"

"If its some stupid baby come back to me speech, then save it," Abby said, "Have a good time with Cassidy."

Then she stormed off. I looked at Bobby. "You are one heck of a jerk, you know that?"

"I saved you man," Bobby said, "You don't have to pretend to be a geek anymore."

"Screw you," I shouted, walking over to a table on my own.

That night I tried to call Abby. She wouldn't pick up. I tried calling Sophie, who also didn't pick up. I went by her house, but her car wasn't there. I went by the library, but she wasn't there. Same with the comic book store, where I got told by the owner I was no longer welcome there for hurting Abby. Dang these geeks had a tight group.

Finally I went home. I decided to call Cassidy. "Hey," she said, "Heard about your breakup."

"Yeah," I said.

"I'm glad you won," Cassidy said, "I hate Bobby. She's just too much of a player you know."

"You knew?" I asked.

"Duh," Cassidy said, "Bobby told me about it the first day."

"Right," I sighed, "Of course he did."

"Well, yes, I would love to go to prom with you. We have a lot to talk about," Cassidy said, "Do you look better in teals, pinks, or reds?"

"Uh, I guess I don't really know," I said.

"Typical boy," Cassidy grumbled, "I'd say probably red. But with black. Anyway, I'll let you go. So much to do. I'll see you tomorrow."

"See you then," I said. This sucked. I had everything I had ever wanted, but I wasn't happy.
