I pulled on my favorite navy blue dress and added the last curl to my hair, examining myself in my mirror covered in notes from Shawn.

Tonight, Shawn was taking me out for the first time in a long time.

My heart bounced in my chest, and heavy butterflies rapidly stirred around my stomach. I couldn't wait to be someplace special with the love of my life.

I checked my phone to see if Shawn had sent anything about coming home from work, but there was nothing.

I called his phone, hoping he didn't forget, worrying that he had something better to do. He wouldn't just leave me hanging, right?

The phone rang a few times before I heard it coming from downstairs? Was he home already?

I slowly walked down the stairs to find his phone on the counter and him asleep on the couch.

I guess he did forget. I sighed, slightly upset. I mean I shouldn't be, he usually keeps his word, I was just looking forward to it.

I gently pulled off my silver dangly earrings and placed it on the marble countertop, grabbing the remote and switching on the tv; which happened to have the volume on full blast.

Shawn stirred in his sleep as I quickly lowered the volume, sitting on the recliner next to him.

"Babe?" Shawn croaked, his voice raspy and full of exhaustion.

"Hey." I smiled as I touched his forehead, brushing his hair back with my hand.

He felt warm.

He slowly sat up, examining what I was wearing. "Oh, shuck. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He apologized continuously, his Canadian accent slipping trough his sorries; sympathy obvious in his expression.

"It's okay babe. Are you feeling okay?" I asked slightly worried.

"Yeah I'm okay. I promise you I didn't forget; I just wasn't feeling good so I wanted to lie down for a little, but yeah let's go."

"No Shawn, it's okay--"

"No, baby girl, c'mon, give me five minutes and we can go." Shawn insisted, slowly getting up from the couch.

"Shawn come here." He neared me as I pulled the tall boy into a hug, my fingertips touching his feverish skin.

He sighed.

"I'm so sorry babe. You look so beautiful. I still want to go out, I'll be fine I promise, it's just a slight fever."

"Wait here." I smiled softly, gently pushing him back on the couch, his eyes wandering my body as I skipped up the steps.

I changed back into what I was wearing before, Shawn's sweatshirt and a pair of leggings. I smiled at how Shawn still wanted to go out in his sickly state.

I grabbed a ton of thick blankets and pulled them down the stairs. Shawn sat up offering to help but I shook my head.

I pulled the blankets onto Shawn as I cuddled into his chest, hearing his steady heartbeat.

"I am so, so, sorry baby. I'll make it up to you I promise."

"It's okay Shawn, don't worry about it." I smiled softly.

"But you were so dressed up and I let you down."

"You didn't let me down," I paused, "your immune system did."

He chuckled lightly as he closed his eyes, and kissed my forehead, drifting off to sleep and leaving me to listen to his peaceful heartbeat.
