+"How many times are you gonna punch me? I'm starting to bruise." Luke rubbed the sore area where I had continuously hit him.
"Till you realize this is a stupid idea." I said while punching him again. As soon as he told me this ridiculous deal he made with the devil, aka Nathan, I unleashed the bitch inside of me. I ranted for a solid ten minutes on how idiotic he was being. All Nathan wants to do is make a fool out of Luke. They are both incredibly talented at basketball but only one would come out on top.
I knew for a fact Nathan would not give up his spot on the basketball team and for him to use it as a bargaining chip means he is a hundred percent sure he will win. Boys and their egos.
"Okay, enough. I am doing this and it would be amazing if my best friend would be by my side cheering me on." Luke gave me an innocent smile.
"Haley will be there." I pointed out. I was not having this bullshit.
I had confidence Luke would win, no doubt about it but why now? Out of all the years the two brothers have been coexisting why bring this up now? Why not just let each other exist in peace without having to prove one is better than the other?
"I know but I need both of my best friends there. I'll have more motivation to win." Those blue irises of his gazed down at me while he leaned on the counter. We were still in Karen's Café because I had gotten distracted by a certain someone to finish up closing.
I let out a sigh, putting my elbows on the counter and my hands on my forehead.
"Just answer one question for me. Why are you doing this? I know you get to join the basketball team but there has to be something else in it for you. You could have joined the team anytime you wanted so why now? If you are trying to prove you're better than him, you are. You don't have to play some stupid game to show him that. You treat people with respect and you don't fuck with girls feelings. You have an outstanding personality so why are you really doing this Luke?" I pleaded with him.
A couple minutes passed as he waited to reply, staring at me with such an intensity I had never seen before. His jaw locked and he finally answered.
"I am doing this for my family. For all the shit they have thrown on us, tried to make us feel like we don't belong. I am doing this because Nathan needs to know I am done with hiding from them. I have ignored them for so long but I finally realized that this is my life too and I can't let them control it. I have to take a stand for me and my mom."
My mouth was slightly agape and I had no words. As I pondered over his answer I came to the conclusion that he was right. Lucas and his mom had taken their bullshit for far to long. It was time for them to take a stand.
I turned around to grab the keys and my purse, walking to the front door. I saw the confused glance Luke sent me and just continued on my path. When he did not follow, I stopped by the door and looked over my shoulder.
"Let's go, loser. You've got a game to win and I have a boy to cheer on."
Luke's face broke out into a huge smile as he walked towards me. Once he reached me he threw his arm around my shoulder and hugged me to his chest, kissing my forehead.
"I love you, Harlee. You know that?"
"You better."

Lucas and I had walked to the River Court. My eyes widened at how many people were here. Most of them were people I had never seen or didn't really like. I tended to stay away from the popular crowd and stuck to my small group of friends; Lucas, Haley, and I. That was all I needed.
My thoughts were interrupted as a fancy car pulled up on the grass. The one and only Nathan Scott stepped out with a smirk plastered on his face. He was soon followed by Tim and Peyton, his best friend and girlfriend.
I scowled the moment my eyes landed on him. I hoped Lucas would hand his ass to him on a silver platter after this game.
"Hey, you look a little unhuman right now." Haley grabbed my shoulder and faced me towards her.
"Can't help it. He's an ass and I want to punch his face for what he has put Lucas through." I rolled my eyes as I watched Nathan's friends cheer him on. How is it humanly possible to tolerate someone like him?
"Yeah, I know but Lucas has this in the bag. No need to get so nervous." My twin sister smiled at me as she grabbed my hand and squeezed it. I had not noticed my hands were shaking. That tends to happen when I get nervous.
I did not bother with replying back, I was to focused on Nathan and Lucas warming up for the game. Of course Nathan had to show off in front of everyone by dunking the ball in the basket.
"Okay, folks, here we go -- 15 by ones. Make it, take it, win by one, and you can feel the intensity in the air." Mouth announced into his speaker. Mouth and Jimmy were sat next to us on the bench all dressed up. They both wanted to be sports announcers so this game brought excitement and opportunity to them. I sent a wave in their direction and turned back to the court to see the two brothers exchanging conversation.
It set me on edge thinking about what Nathan could be saying. He could be trying to throw Luke off his game but I knew Lucas. Once he has his head focused on something, nothing could distract him.
