Insanity's Ideals ~Prequel to Deathnote~

Chapter 1 ~The Beginning~

A world is filled with many things. People, animals, lives, ideals, thoughts, emotions... The list could go on and on, with nobody wanting to read it all the way through. There lies a problem. This list is something that should be read. I want to be the one to do it. I want to read that list. I want to know everything on it; have it memorized to the point I can recite it without a single of hesitation.

Ever since I can remember, I have been interested in human beings. Everything about them is fascinating to me. Their reactions to situations, their emotions, their great or lacking intelligence levels. Everything. I study them like lab rats in a way. Call it a hobby or an interest. It is very interesting, really...

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ai Tagiyoshi. I am 15 years of age and am currently a bright student that is working to get at the top of her class. I excel in every single one of my classes and I do not like to be bothered when studying. I wish to be a mentalist. I want to explore the very contours of the human mind. I want to understand every last thing. Know why this happens if I do this or that.

And there is one thing in particular about the human mind that interests me the most: insanity. The one condition that can drive a human to commit unspeakable acts. Where the mind is so messed up because of some reason that it can’t compute the actions that it does. Murder and sinning is no longer something unreachable. It is tangible and is committed. People are condemned to Hell. They will never know what Heaven is or what it is like. All the fault being that little thing known as insanity.

The way people treat the insane is also interesting. Locking them up in padded cells and letting rot there for years as they just laugh and cry out nonsense. A sick way to deal with proclaimed ‘sick’ people. Of course, I love people like this. Disordered have always interested me. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, things like that. The human mind... human themselves... are the most interesting thing in this life to me.

All I wanted was to learn more...

That’s when I found the book that changed everything forever. A story that was meant to be kept under lock and key, erased from peoples’ memories. Especially one person in particular. It is a story that is only supposed to be nothing more than that... a story. But, it is all too real.

It’s the story of sad kind, one could inquire that there is a heartbroken love story involved, yet I do not think of it like that. The book was simple. It’s title told you all you needed to know about what the book’s purpose was. It was entitled:

Deathnote.
