Although things seemed at a standstill for him, he refused to give in and let Tenshi win the game they were playing. The lack of evidence and high toll count were beginning to become more of an issue than ever. An un-trusting police force was surely investigating him as he was them, using all they could to get something on him.

Picking up his fork by the very end of it, he stabbed the strawberry atop his rather large portion of cake, eyes not leaving the monitor. Even now, he was investigating the police was practically invisible spy ware that had been placed without the police knowing. He had them installed only but a few days before, and had yet to come into anything useful for his investigation.

He thought about Tenshi, trying to figure things out. Tenshi was still at large, still carrying out his unknown intentions. If he could just figure out what those intentions were, maybe the case could start moving once again.

“You have to let me on the case!” A shout from the monitor caught his attention. Lowering his fork from his mouth, he refocused on the screen.

It was the spy ware from Japan’s main police department. On the screen were three people, one being the director of the police department, one being the chief, and the last one being what looked like a child of the age of 14 or 15. He was young, but was not acting like it.

“Sorry, Tagayoshi-san. This case is too dangerous for you. You’re too young to put yourself at this kind of risk,” The chief told him with an almost sad ring to his voice. The boy shook his head furiously, hands clenching into tight fists as he prepared to argue once again.

“I have been apprenticing here for several years now! I can handle it! I am a straight A student, I am smart! You both know that I don’t give up that easily! So, please, just let me join this case... Even the person I look up to the most on this planet in working on this case! I want to work with him and bring Tenshi to justice!” Hinata burst out, exploding when he was told no. He was just that kind of kid-- too stubborn to even realize what he was getting into.

The director lifted his gaze to narrow his eyes at the boy. “And who might this person you think so highly of?”

“The world’s greatest detective! L himself has taken it under him to bring Tenshi down!”

The clatter of a fork hit his plate, echoing around the room with a resonating sound. This kid... How did this kid know about him working on the case? That kind of information was supposed to be kept silent-- it had been promised by the police that not a word about L or the Tenshi case would leave the department.

“I have been apprenticing here for several years now!”

So, that’s how. The kid was probably deeply involved in the police, and telling by the way he was acting and the badge on his shirt, he was pretty high up. For a little teenager, he looked like he had some ability. He glanced over at the files with everyone involved in the police from his earlier investigations. Fingering through them, he pulled a certain sheet out.

There he is. The boy on the screen was named Tagayoshi Hinata, the youngest child in the Tagayoshi family. The picture of him confirmed this. He looked like a relatively normal teenager, with normal looks, but digging further into his record, it turned out he was quite exceptional. He was a straight A+ student with achievements in both school related activities and social community related benefits. Glancing over at his sister, Ai, he frowned. Where had he heard that name before?

Tagayoshi Ai... it sounded so familiar.

Then it hit him.

One of Tenshi’s first killings, a young man by the name of Suego Kan, was killed by a heart attack, despite having an originally clean bill of health. He was the kind of student that skipped classes, got bad grades, and had a long criminal record of stealing and assaults. He was your typical thug. It was reported that Ai had been leaving her school as one of the last students after a night cram class for college, and was approached by Suego. She said how he tried to take advantage of her, but she ran away. Eventually, he had caught up with her, but before he could do anything else, he died mysteriously of a heart attack. The reason why was still not been solved.

Something inside his head clicked. Something about this girl, Tenshi, caught his attention. The likely hood of Tenshi actually being there at the first killing was rather high, now that he started to process the information. Although it was going out on a limb, Ai could be Tenshi. She could have used Suego as a test dummy, a first time test to see whether her method of killing would prove worthy. She had a story to back it up, which could just be fake. Considering the fact that he died of a heart attack but had a clean bill of health only supported his theory.

Turning his attention back to the monitor, he typed in a few keys. On the director’s desk, he hacked onto the director’s laptop. Having the screen turn white, he switched on the microphone to disguise his voice.

“Tagayoshi Hinata-san,” His voice immediately caught their attention, all three of them spinning around to look at the laptop. The boy looked hesitant, but decided there was no harm in answering.

“Hai?”

“This is L. You wish to be involved in the Tenshi case?”

“Y-yes... I do!” His answer sounded encouraged, but somewhat naive. He had energy and potential, but at the same time, he was the kind of person to let childish things block reality out. Then again, everyone had their flaws...

“Then I will welcome you on the force. Any information that is spoken about the Tenshi case must be kept under lock and key. If you say a word, then even I am not sure what will happen to you. It is in your best interests to keep silent.”

“H-hai! L-sama!” Even though it was a computer talking to him and the real L was not there, he watched as Hinata dropped into a stiff, strict bow of respect.

This kid might be useful. Useful in more ways than he currently knew.
