You grip the steering wheel, trying to pay attention to the road while comforting your boyfriend,
“They’ll love you Prince,” you tell him glancing at him and rub his shoulder trying not to crash on the busy highway.
“I.. I don’t know,… I mean…. what if they don’t…., how does my outfit look,” he asks turning his whole body towards you and pulling his shirt towards you.
“You look great babe,” you tell him without looking at him, laughing on the inside at how he’s acting, when he’s always telling you to stay confident.
He sighs and pulls his sunglasses onto his face, he drifts off to sleep, finally letting you concentrate while maneuvering your car on the busy highway and streets.
You finally make it to your parent’s house,
“Wake up Prince, we’re here,” you tell him as you shake his arm.
He gets up and takes in his surroundings,
” What… What happened, did the car break down, did we run out of gas, is the tire flat,” he asks trying to figure out why he’s in the middle of the hood.
” No babe, it’s time for you to meet my parents,” you giggle, “What you’ve never been in the city before,” you ask.
“Y/n this is not the city, we’re in the ghetto,” he starts panicking
“I told you I was from the school of the hard knocks,” you tell him hopping out of the car.
You were greeted by a few old friends, you talked to them for a few minutes before dragging Princeton out of the car.
“You better lock it, I just bought that car for you,” he tells you while eyeing the group of drug dealers on the corner.
You lock the car just for his peace of mind and continue walking to your house. The neighbor’s pit-bull barks, you continue walking, it was normal, you stop when you notice Princeton isn’t walking behind you. He’s looking at the dog with fear in his eyes like he has never seen a dog in his life.
“You really did grow up in the valley,” you laugh, you quickly grab his hand and continuing your walk towards your house.
You pound on the wooden door and wait for someone to answer,
“Why didn’t you just use the doorbell,” he ask acting like he knew best.
“It doesn’t work,” you tell him, ” Most houses out here don’t have working doorbells,” you continue like a know it all.
Your mom answers the door, more dressed up then usual and gives you both a smile, before she looks Princeton up and down.
“Hey m/n,” you greet her stretching your arms out for a hug.
Princeton clears his throat,
“Hi Ms. l/n,” he greets giving her an awkward wave.
“It’s alright you can give me a hug,” she tells him, suddenly enveloping him in a warm hug.
The rest of the night went well, although Princeton jumped at every single sound. Your parents were pleased with Princeton, although your dad seemed iffy at first he accepted your relationship. They thought he was hilarious and would be a ‘good influence’ on you. You thanked them both for being so welcoming and began to make small-talk.
Gunshots sound off and unlike the rest of the family, who sits at the table, used to things like this, Princeton hides under the table.
“Umm… alright, Mom, Dad, I love you, but I think it’s time we leave,” you tell them giving them quick hugs before grabbing Princeton and leading him to the car before he made them change their minds about him.
