"Would you cut it out already? That smile of yours is giving me the creeps already!" Simon griped loudly, roughly throwing his pillow directly at Alec before flopping down with a huff upon his bed. Removing the pillow from upon his face, he let it down onto the floor, tossing a vague look of annoyance over at his roommate.
"Don't be jealous." He teased, returning his attention back to the mobile phone in hand. Simon sighed, gruffly. Reluctantly opening one eye, he peered over at the bed set a few feet away from his own.
"Debated." He replied unhappily, allowing a weary yawn to escape from his hold. "In any case it already half past two, and I have get up for Uni in about 4 hours, so can you please just call it a night?" His sentence trailed off into a whine whilst he gestured to Alec for his pillow back. Giving a hearty laugh, Alec gave it a throw before quickly knocking off the lamp by the side of his bed.
"Thank god!" Simon rejoiced, finally hearing the slight click of what he presumed was Alec putting the phone away in the drawer. Satisfied, Simon delved his head quickly into the comfort of his blanket, resting his head on the softness of the pillow below. He yawned, so wide that he thought his jaw might have snapped off. It was clear that the monthly exams had taken its toile on him. As he felt his eyelids grow increasingly heavy, he became increasingly aware of something disturbing him nearby. Trying to ignore it, he tossed himself to the side, the excessive clicking sound burning in his ears. At first it was tolerable, just annoying but as the room suddenly grew brighter, irritating his eyes; he found it hard to put up with any longer.
"Give me a break!" Simon snapped, switching the light switch on to spot Alec fiddling happily with the mobile, smiling to himself. Simon frowned.
"What are you doing this time?!" He growled, his head tilting slightly from the lack of sleep. Or maybe it had been the couple of drinks he had had before bed; well it was important to experience 'all' aspects of student life.
"What?" Alec queried, pretending to be innocent but showing no signs of putting the phone away. Simon felt his cheek twitch.
"That Phone. What could you possibly be doing on that phone at about three o'clock in the morning!" Despite the irritation expressed in his voice, even he had become a little curious about it. Alec, who wasn't usually up for a night in the pub but who was always out somewhere or other, he was a really odd person.
"Just deleting some stuff." Alec replied, scarcely looking up from the phone screen. Simon felt his jaw jut to the side slightly.
"And that couldn't wait until tomorrow!" There was something not right with this guy! Despite having known him since high school, it was pretty clear that he wasn't so easy to understand, especially lately.
"Nope." Alec said, tapping away on the touch screen. Simon felt his shoulders slump. That grin of his was making him feel awfully uneasy.
"And why not? It's just a new phone anyways." He argued, turning his head to the right a little to peer through the slight gaps in his fingers where Alec was holding onto his phone.
"Because it can't."
"Why not?" Simon countered quickly, making a move to sit on the side of the bed. So that's what all this was about!
"Because I don't know if it will be tomorrow." Alec laughed, perhaps even at himself. He was aware how foolish had begun to sound to his friends but it didn't matter to him. The excitement he felt right now was practically stinging at his fingertips and he continued to change the settings on his phone as if he were possessed.
"Alec, it's been a month already." Simon said, his voice a tad softer than before. "Don't you think you should just, forget about her?" He'd often tried to warn him off from the what they now liked to call her, the woman as subtle as smoke. Where there was smoke, there was always fire and watching Alec run head long into it made him feel just a little bit angry about it. So much so that he had begun to take out his frustration in other ways.
"Doesn't matter." There was no hesitation in Alec's reply, or even a hint of sadness or worry. For whatever reason, he had never showed any uncertainty that he would meet the mystery woman again, it didn't matter when, only that he would. Simon didn't quite get it but he kind of admired his determination, even if it was entirely misplaced.
"You said yourself that you've never waited this long, maybe she's moved on-"
"No." Alec's voice cut across him sharply, his glare almost too painful to look at. "She hasn't. I don't know what her reasons are but when she's ready, she'll call me." He just needed to be patient. And besides, it wasn't like he had any other way to get in touch with her. She made it so that it was impossible for him to find her. Even so, he would wait, as he had always done. Simon rolled his eyes plainly.
"You better not let Badge hear you talking like that." He winced at the thought and even Alec had jumped upright a little more. It had probably been rather cruel of him to bring their friend Badge into the conversation but they both knew what the result would be if he happened find out about Alec's little secret hangout. Even if it was out of concern, Badge wouldn't exactly be quiet with his complaints. It was best to leave him find it for himself, after all it was only a matter of time anyway.
He sighed as he made his way over to the mini-fridge. With a rather resigned look on his face, he yanked the door open, bringing out two cold cans of beer. He placed one down on the floor and then tossed the remainder over to Alec who caught it clumsily in his arms.
"I thought you were trying to sleep?" Alec laughed, playfully raising an eyebrow at him. His roommate didn't match his excitement in the least and only glared at him from the opposite end of the room. Alec's smile shrunk back ever so slightly.
"Yeah, well I figured that hearing you talk over and over about you and you're...whatever is bound to bore me to sleep. He grabbed the can from off the floor and taking large gulps of beer. "So start talking!"
