Refuge

May.... May something something... Ugh.... I can't remember anything. What I can remember is that I was able to make my students evacuate to a trusted group of people. A rebellious group, who were against the government's decision on bombarding the earth with nuclear bombs. Why? It's because centuries after the decline of the infection age, there was an alien invasion. At first they were trying to help exterminate the infected humans, but then politics happened. Yeah... History repeats itself...

"beep", that sound echoed nearby, "awaiting command professor.", a tiny metallic sphere with a glowing eye appeared in my blurry vision.

"ah... Unit 2, what's the situation here?" I replied

"apologies professor, but I'm Unit 1, however I will brief you on the current situation in this area. While you were unconscious, we were luckily sheltered from the effects of the nuclear bombardment. But there's a miscalculation on what happened, there was only one bomb that was dropped and was slightly far away from us. We were also sheltered by the nearby barrier dome from the alien base..."

"wait wait wait... Hold up... An alien base near us?"

"That is right professor, me and unit 2 took a probing on the vicinity and detected the base, it seems this was deployed recently as an assault force against the bombardment of the government. After the bombardment, that base was then abandoned. As they left, we were then able to find some unattended war drones not too far away from the base."

"I see... We might have a chance to evacuate this place by using the technology the aliens have-"

beep...

"professor, Unit 2 has returned from the recent probing."

"this is an alert" Unit 2 spoke monotonously, "it seems the base wasn't abandoned and are now doing a search party around the area. They were alerted from the loss of their war probes that we stole after the assumed abandonment."

"we're now waiting for your command professor." Unit 1 calmly exclaimed.

"well... Since we survived the bombardment, this is the only ticket for us to escape from this forsaken place and to unite with the rebellion" I said calmly, "we should use those drones to do an infiltration on the enemy's research facility, we'll steal some of their technology to attach it on my mechanical arm and to get a space craft for the escape. Don't worry about me, I'll also fight along, it's been a while since I haven't used the amplification function of my exoskeleton. Aight! Let's begin the operation."

"command accepted" Unit 1 and 2 then accepted the orders.

My Units then manipulated the drones while they follow my orders on the infiltration, we were able to avoid the search parties and reached the base. The base was surrounded with defense units rather than watch towers, what we can do is to cut off the power of the base, but we need to use one of the Units to hack the system. Hence, what we did is to use one of the drones to carry Unit 1 to fly at high altitude that is out of range from the defence units. The drone did a dive at the main structure and pretend it was a crash. Because of Unit 1's small size, he won't be noticed when it enters the structure.

beep.

"Unit 1 has infiltrated the main structure." Unit 2 informed me.

"okay" I anxiously replied, yeah, even though they're just robots, both of them helped me out as I graduated, "can you contact with Unit 1 for me?"

"connecting to Unit 1" Unit 2 processed the communication and created a radio noise sound, then-

"professor, I have accessed the main control room of the defense units, I will now begin the hacking of the system." Unit 1 replied.

I sighed in relief... "I thought you were a goner there Unit 1"

BANG!!

an explosion was heard at the base, the bang was too fictional to the untrained ear, but it's real, the defense units attacked all the patrols left in the base and some of them contacted the search parties to retreat. Me, Unit 2 then rushed to the main structure with the stolen drones covering us. As we arrived inside the main structure, the staff inside it rushed to their communication utilities and were able to report that the drones were stolen. Unit 2 immediately ordered the drones to eliminate all staff or throw them outside of they're harmless.

30 minutes after the infiltration, we managed to drive away the staff remaining staff and the patrols outside the base. I ordered Unit 2 to control all the remaining drones to defend the main structure for as long as I was able to steal the weaponry and technology. I ordered Unit 1 to control the defense units while helping me attach the weapon system on my mechanical arm. My left organic hand was busy on finding a spacecraft that I might use on escape, though sadly this was a gamble for me to do this since I don't understand the language used and the functionality of their computer.

beep.

"professor, we have 45 minutes and 37 seconds for the add on of the foreign weapon system, should we continue the process?" Unit 1 asked for confirmation.

"do it" I replied with no hesitation.

beep.

"beginning process of installation." Unit 1 proceeds the operation.

beep.

"alert! Multiple alien forces has been detected and are now attempting to destroy the defense units" Unit 1 suddenly announced nonchalantly.

"oh sh*t..." I obviously exclaimed.
