We all saw Jacob come from the forests in near tears.Only Edward knew what was going on.
When I walked to the window,where the rest of our coven was standing,I almost felt sad for the guy.What was going on? Bella was just as curious,only I shushed her.Humans.
I was about to ask Edward,but he didn't need to,Seth Clearwater came and answered all our questions.So now we were a bunch of eavesdropping peeping toms.Great.
"Don't worry.They're not following us." Seth Clearwater assured.
From what? I thought,nudging Edward and hoping he'd answer my internal question.He just shook his head and focused very hard on the conversation.I hated being left in the dark.
"What do you think you're doing here?" Jacob demanded.It sort of made it better that he seemingly didn't really know what was going on either.
"I left Sam's pack."Seth shrugged non-chalant.
My eyes widened and Esme gasped a little,whereas Rose just snarled and attended to Bella again.I voiced out their conversation,because Jake and Seth's was way more important.
"Go home Seth." Jacob's words edged with a bit of scoffing,the kind of treatment you get when your in kindergarten and you decide to talk to the 2nd Graders.I wouldn't know because I couldn't remember back that far,but I had seen TV.
"I won't stand behind him." Seth argued,being the little twerp he was.
"Oh,yes,you will."Jacob retorted for once seeming like the mature one.
"I'm not kidding.Get out of here." Jacob continued when he knew--as we all did--that Seth wanted to put up another argument.
"Is that an order? Gonna make me bow down too?" Seth asked more hurt than sarcastic.
What had happened when they left?
Jake softened a little."I'm not ordering anyone." he paused. "Look I'm just going off on my own here,okay?"
"Huh?"I voiced audibly when he said that.Esme gasped again,Edward nodded to my question though it didn't really seem like he was paying attention,Jasper stiffened,Alice scoffed at herself because we all knew she couldn't see past wolves,and Carlisle just folded his hands and looked sort of remorseful.
Rose growled low,too low for Bella,who was still demanding in her croaky voice what was going on.
"Great,and I've got your back."Seth said smugly,adding a grin.I always unspokenly liked that kid,Bella was my sister now,and how he protected her from Riley Biers,was not the kind of gratitude Edward ever could express,but it was closer than it had been.
"No you don't."Jake said,stubbornly.Seth looked hurt again.
"If Sam comes after Bella,"Jake reasoned."Are you really ready to fight your own brothers? Your sister?" Well that was the million dollar answer that won the vampires question.I was only surprised Edward didn't react differently.The poor kid had no life in him,whatever emotions he had,no matter how strong,was cascaded by the fact that he thought he helped create a monster who was eating Bella from the inside out.
When Rose heard this,she took her spot at my side and growled angrily.
"If it's the right thing to do."Seth answered,though his small voice didn't seem accurate.Rose's expression softened and she took my hand in distress.
"Whatever."Jake allowed,I guess he couldn't fight against the-right-thing-to-do argument,he was trying to do the same thing."I'm gonna go give the Cullens a heads-up."--as if that was needed,"Do what you want."
