Mia's/Rai's POV
"Rai, do you know where my hairbrush is?" Kage asked me, calling me by my middle name.
I shook my head no, "Did you check the bathroom?"
"Yeah, it was where I went first."
I abandoned my suitcase by Kage and Jaspar's door, walking inside their room.
"Check your nightstand Kage." Halle said, not taking her eyes off her book. Halle and I were packed and ready, but the others weren't so punctual. The house was hectic as everyone ran around, grabbing necessities, and things to entertain them. Anything that would make the longer parts of this trip bearable. Meaning Halle and I had the time to relax, Halle taking the chance to lie on Jaspar's bed while reading and reminding Kage what he did and didn't forget to pack.
We were driving to Vidcon. The original idea was to take a plane, and show up there in a matter of hours, but no. I came up with the idea of a road trip. We all knew it would take days, and it'd be much more efficient to fly. Anxiety can suck some days more than others, because the anxiety of some of us was preventing a short plane trip there.
We had settled on the idea that it would be fun, and great bonding time. I could tell it wouldn't be like that the second everyone started up.
We'd most likely get a bit sick of eachother. Days in a limited amount of space with no freedom to walk or move would be irritating.
"Found it!"
I was pulled out of my thoughts to see Kage waving a brush in the air.
"Great, now what else do you need to pack?" I asked.
"Toothbrush." Kage said, walking out of the room.
I focused on Halle.
"Do you think this road trip is a good idea?" I asked.
"Not really, no." She replied, turning the page of her novel.
I sighed at her lack of comforting words.
"Maybe it'll be better than we think." I said.
"We?" Halle looked up.
"Yeah, we."
"I'm surprised you're worrying about it, it was your idea after all." She got her bookmark in place, putting her book in front of her.
"I just don't want to fly there, that's all. Trust me the idea of a road trip doesn't exactly sound like the best to me either."
Kage came back, his toothbrush and toothpaste in a plastic bag.
"I'm done packing." He announced.
"I'm going to recheck my bags." Halle said.
"You've already checked them 50 times." Kage said.
"It's not like I want to end up like you and forget things." Halle said.
"I think that's more what I do." I said.
"You too, but Kage's hairbrush is still on the floor which he seems to have forgotten." Halle said.
"I didn't forget it, see." Kage grabbed the brush, stuffed it into his bag, and zipped it shut.
He seemed to be proud as he sat atop his suitcase.
Halle simply picked up the plastic bag of tooth care. "Forgetting something?"
"Damn it!" Kage groaned.
He snatched it from her hands.
The two had an ongoing competition for at least a year. It wasn't out loud, and there were no rules to it, but they seemed to have the constant need to one up eachother. It was mostly friendly fire, though it did cause the occasional fight. I suspected the toothbrush reminder was a point on Halle's side.
"Okay Hal, off my bed." The familiar voice behind me made me jump.
I looked to see Jaspar standing with his arms crossed, he wasn't mad though, he just tended to have that resting body language of get the fuck out of my way.
"You done packing, Jasp?" I asked.
He nodded, walking over to where Halle had been, and plopping down on his black comforter.
"Why did I offer to drive first? I'm so tired." He mumbled.
Halle sat on Kage's grey bed, unfazed by having to move.
"Your fault bro, don't worry, it'll go by fast." Kage said, pulling his suitcase out of the room.
We had two cars we rented for the trip, each one could fit 5 people, we were 9. The idea was that in car #1, Jaspar would drive, Ruby in the passenger seat, with Tess and Lina in the back until lunch. Car #2, driven by Bronwyn, would drive until lunch as well, though Kage would be in the passenger seat with Halle, Alice, and I in the back. I had called window seat as if I was 6 when we made those arrangements. The entire schedule was in place for 7 days. Google Maps had said it'd only be 3 for driving, but we wanted to be safe. We had the same schedule for the way back.
"Is Ruby done packing?" I asked Jaspar, knowing he had been with her.
"I don't know, I wasn't paying attention." He muttered.
"When are we leaving?" Halle asked.
"We're leaving in," I pulled out my phone to check the time, it was 8:46am "around 15 minutes, that is if we want to follow our schedule."
Jaspar groaned, rolling over so he was on his stomach.
"Okay." Halle said, returning to whatever world she was reading about.
"Do any of you know where my green sweater is?" Lina shouted from the living room.
Halle looked up and smirked at me, "I don't know, ask Rai."
I laughed, wondering how many things I'd have to help find for them, I didn't mind though.
"I'll be right over Lina." I replied.
