It's the first day of school and I honestly don't want to get out of bed. But I realize that I have to, as I sit up in my bed and stretch I look over at my sister who is sound asleep in the bed next to mine. I walk into my bathroom and get in the shower. The water is cold at first, so I adjust it. As the water warms up I straighten out my back and look down at my stomach. I see the cuts that seem to fill the spaces. I wash up and step out of the shower. I reach for the door handle but I stop short. I turn to the mirror and start to touch my face. I suck in my cheeks and raise my eyebrows. Then I close my eyes. I can't look at myself any longer wthout bursting into tears.
Once I am back into my room, I get dressed in my favorite navy blue dress, black booties and a black leather jacket. As I make way back to the bathroom to finish getting ready, my mom stops my mom stops my and says.
"You look nice, sweety." She smiles and comes closer to hug me.
"Thanks mom" I said wrapping my arms around her back.
I walk to the bathroom and start to curl my chin-length hair. I thouch it and think 'why can't my hair be pretty and long?' I shake my head and continue curling my hair. As I start puting my foundation onto my pale skin, I spot a million imperfections. I put on the rest of my makeup and look in the mirror. 'Wow' I think, 'You look almost adequate'. My eyes start to fill with tears. I blink them away, trying not to ruin the mascara I had just finished.
I walk downstairs to the kitchen and grab a glass of water. I start to get my things ready for school and I hear my mom say something in the kitchen. I couldn't quite make it out so I walk into the kitchen. She is sitting at the island that takes up about a third of our kitchen.
"Did you eat breakfast?" she asks not looking up from the lunch she making me for school.
"Um, yeah." I say nodding.
"Okay baby, take this." she says handing me the sack lunch.
"What is it?" I ask opening the bag.
" Food," she smiles, "Its a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with grapes and baby carrots"
"Okay mom, thank you," I walk over to the island and stand on my tip-toes and kiss her cheek, "See you after school."
" Alright sweetie, love you!" She shouts as I walk toward the door to catch the bus.
" Love you too!" I yell as I shut the door behind me. I walk to the bus stop and see my friend Dani.
She has her headphones in so I just stand next to her and let her be. She takes out one of the earbuds and told me she liked my outfit. I said the same to her and she continued listening to her music. I was the last stop on the bus ride so it didn't take long to get to school.
We arrived at school at 7:32. Right on time. I still had 20 minutes before first period started. I asked Dani if she wanted to walk with me to my locker. She nodded and we headed toward my locker at the end of the hallway. I opened my locker and found a note on the top shelf.
