Chapter One: Dreams
My adrenaline spiked, I was running as fast as I could, not daring to look back. The fear of their clawed hands grabbing me was overwhelming. They were getting closer and closer and I was getting slower. I hopped a wall and tripped...
My eyes opened, it was morning.
“Just a dream,” I told myself, “Just a dream.”
There was bright sunlight shafting through my room, I rolled over and checked the clock, and it was 7:00 am. Jumping up I yanked my shades open all the way and surveyed my quiet neighborhood. Our neighborhood was located right by the local graveyard. As I got ready my mind wandered, I thought about the dream, this one was different, normally my attackers were faceless hooded figures but last night I could tell who they were, well at least they had faces. They weren’t anyone I knew it was eerie being able to know their identities.
“Knock, knock” my mom said, walking in.
I was in mid change.
“Hi,” I said,
“Almost ready Jennifer?” she asked.
“Yeah”
She left and I finished getting ready. Running down the stairs, I grabbed my backpack and headed outside. I generally walked to school because I met up with Ian about half way to school. He was unbelievably gorgeous and he was my best friend. He was a tall, well-muscled guy with hazel eyes and a killer smile. After walking for about a block and a half I spotted him.
“Damn!” I muttered, he was stunning.
He was leaning against a tree dressed in jeans and a black t-shirt. He gave me a playful smile when I walked up to him.
“Hey Jen-Jen.” He said, using his pet name for me. Slinging his arm around my shoulders we started walking again. The smell that wafted over me from him was amazing, he always smelled good. We had been friends since we were toddlers and always had each other back. Our moms had met each other when we were about two. The moms were fast friends but we took a while. But it wasn’t too long before we became friends though. So here we were juniors in high school, still friends.
We were almost to school now. The school was a big building with a large lawn area. I remembered the first day we set foot in this building, it was scary and overwhelming, well at least it was for me. Ian seemed to be calm and collected the whole time. Walking up the front lawn we ran into three of Ian’s jock buddies.
“What’s up man?” John said. He had blond hair and a slightly hulking frame.
“Nothing much.” Ian replied, slapping him a high five and pulling his arm from around me. He didn’t like flaunting how close we were, not because he was shallow but for my sake, he didn’t want people to make fun of me. Ian was more popular than me so some of the people that hung around with him were jerks. His other friends, Mark and Jacob stood slightly behind John. Both had brown hair but Jacobs was curly, it was his Mexican heritage. Ian had longer dark brown hair that was slightly wavy, but it suited him. He was one of the finest boys in the school and many girls wanted him. Mark walked over to me, grinning slightly.
“How was your weekend?” he asked shyly.
“Pretty good, how about you?” I replied.
“It was slow.”
I way Ian’s eyes slide over to meet mine and then Mark’s. His eyebrows raised and Mark went slightly red.
