"Hey! Wake up lazy." I heard as I was hit in the head with a pillow. I groaned.
"No." I pulled the covers up over my head and curled into a ball. "Leave me alone." I mumbled.
"Sorry, no can do." How was Grace always filled with so much energy?
I tore the covers off and huffed. "Fine. You win, okay?" Maybe sneaking out to hang with Spencer, and having a sleepover on a school night, all in the same day wasn't such a good idea. Grace and I didn't fall asleep until around four this morning. I've been asleep for two and a half hours! Now I have to get my stupid, tired butt up for school. Great.
"Remind me what the point in even going to sleep for a couple of hours was." I scolded Grace. She's the one who had the bright idea we should stay up all night talking and doing makeovers. Then again, I'm the stupid one who went along with it.
"Look on the bright side," said Grace. "We only have two classes, and then that drug convention comes. We can just skip the rest of the day. It's our senior year, we're suppose to do crap like that." she stated. I rolled my eyes and began to get ready for school. Hmm...drug convention. Maybe that could benefit Spencer. I grabbed a pair of Grace's jeans and a tank top. I threw on my jacket over it.
"Really? You have a whole closet full of cute and stylish clothes, for free, and you're still going to dress plain and simple?" she complained.
"Is there a problem with that?" I retorted. At first I meant this sarcastically, but then I realized Spencer might expect more from me, although he never said anything about my wardrobe.
"Yes. You have no fashion sense whatsoever." she continued complaining. I picked up her neon pink brush and pulled it through my long, dull hair.
"Yes I do. It's called simple and casual." I replied.
"I give up." I smiled. I knew she didn't mean this. The next chance she got she would still try to doll me up. And unless it's for Spencer or a special occasion it's probably not going to happen. We finished getting ready and drove to school. The morning was passing by in a dazed blur. I was trying not to daydream. I knew I would fall asleep.
"Have you seen Spencer at all this morning?" I asked Grace in the halls. Our first class was already over.
"Don't worry. He probably just skipped because of the drug convention thing; and honestly if you weren't my friend I probably wouldn't have even bothered to show up for the two classes this morning either." She said as we walked to English. Of course Spencer would skip the drug convention. I felt stupid and a little disappointed.
"Yeah, I know. You're probably right." I said shrugging it off. Once we got into class Grace and I were careful to try and get seats next to each other. We preferred sitting next to each other, but depending on what time we showed up that didn't always happen.
"There's two seats open by the window." Grace pointed out.
"Oh yeah, good call." We made our way over and sat down. There was only a couple of minutes until class started. For some reason Mrs. Finkle wasn't in the room yet. I bet she'll be happy to see that for the first time in my life I'm actually on time to her class.
There weren't any assignments on the board for me to copy down so I just sat and waited for her to arrive. I was in the middle of thinking about Spencer and our kiss when Mrs. Finkle walked in.
"Alright class," she addressed us. "As you all know mid-term is coming up soon. In preparation for that you will be writing two papers. The first one will be a research paper, of your choice." She continued as she wrote down dates and regulations on the board. "The second paper will be a creative writing essay." She explained further. "You may right about whatever you wish as long as it is plausible and school appropriate." She finished. "Are there any questions?"
No one answered so she ushered us to the library to begin. I decided I wanted to write my research paper on Dolphins. I know it's a random topic; but if I don't pick something random or interesting like that for a research paper than I will just get bored with it, and my paper will sound dull.
"What are you writing about?" I asked Grace as she sat down at the computer next to me.
"The evolution of Fashion from the 17th century to present." she said excitedly. Of course, I thought as I rolled my eyes.
After about thirty-five minutes of researching I had quite a few sources and was ready to begin my outline. I was going to have this paper finished in no time. Grace on the other hand spent most of the time just browsing dresses from the 1800's.
"Alright class is dismissed. Head to the Gym quietly, that is where the drug assembly is being held. I will be following right behind you so no goofing off." she warned.
Grace and I made our way out of the library. For some reason Grace was trying to lag behind. After a few minutes had passed we were walking with Mrs. Finkle. "Mrs. Finkle," Grace began sweetly. "Vee and I really have to use the restroom before the assembly." she said pouting.
"Very well," she said eyeing us knowingly. "I wasn't involved with whatever you two are up to. Are we clear?"
"Crystal!" replied Grace enthusiastically.
I laughed as we made our way out the front doors of the school. "So this is what ditching feels like." I mused. It seemed so easy.
"Oh please, I can't consider this ditching. We didn't have classes today anyway." She stopped herself and looked at me. "Okay fine, I guess this can be considered ditching in your case." she smiled.
"Thank you." I replied laughing. "So what are we going to do with ourselves?" I asked.
"Let's go to the coffee shop. We can figure it out from there." she replied.
"Alright I will follow you there." We separated as we walked towards our cars. I suppose since I stayed the night with Grace we could've just ridden together to save gas, but we never think far enough ahead like that.
"Ouch!" I yelled. Out of nowhere I fell to the ground. "Hey!" I screamed in panic. There was someone behind me. All of a sudden the world became dark. I realized there was a bag being tied over my head and I began panicking. My attacker grabbed my hands and began to tie them together. "Grace!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Grace! Anybody! Help me!" I continued to cry as loud as I could. My attacker began to drag me by my feet. I tried kicking and writhing from their grasp as I continued to cry out for help. My attacker picked me up. "Put me down!" I yelled.
"Shut up!" I heard a deep voice growl. Something hard hit me in the head and I began to black out. The last thing I remember hearing is the sound of a trunk closing. As my fingers began to tingle and my eyes fluttered shut, I realized I was being kidnapped.
