Vanessa's Point Of View
"Adam! Adam!" I cried, staring at his pale, limp body in the hospital room, wrapped in bandages and cuts.
"No, no, this cannot be happening. I'm just dreaming, it's a nightmare and tomorrow morning, Adam will be fine and I will be fine and we will be fine." I tried convincing myself, despite knowing it was in vain.
"Honey?" a hand tapped my shoulder and a shiver ran through my spine.
"Aunt Carissa! How did this happen?" I hugged her, tears flowing down on my face.
"I don't know dear. All I know is..." She paused and looked at me sadly.
I nodded at her to continue.
"He was in his car with another girl in his arms, when this accident happened dear. They were coming from a party, the roads were pitch black and they didn't notice the truck coming in front of them till it was too late. I am so sorry, I'm sure Adam has a genuine reason behind what was going on. He's not like this." She looked at me guiltily.
"Yes, I can't lose faith in him so quickly. It's going to be okay, we are going to be fine." I spoke to myself.
"Go rest Vanessa; you've been here for nearly 3 hours. Get some sleep; I'll wake you up if anything happens. You've experienced a whirlwind of emotions right now, I'm sure you need time to sort out your mind."
I nodded numbly, mumbling a soft thank you and arranging myself on the chair nearby. Too much has happened in one night; too much for me to comprehend at once. Perhaps, a good sleep will do me good.
Flashback
"I love you Adam, you know that, right?" I mumbled.
"Yeah, I do." He said softly.
"Don't you love me back?" I slurred, falling on him.
"I- uh I don't know." His voice was barely above a whisper, but I still heard it, I heard the uncertainty in his voice.
"Do you love anyone else?" I mumbled, and instantly fell on his lap, cuddling him while trying to get over my hangover by sleeping.
After a while, I heard the answer. The answer I wasn't meant to hear, the answer I shouldn't have heard.
"Yes."
