The Innocent Life of a Shadowhunter

Chapter 10

I noticed that Jace was staring at my arm and then he said, "Do you have a rune for yourself?" I nodded. He told be to draw it on his arm so I did; he was amazed at how complicated it was, but when I had finished, he just hugged me and kissed me until we fell asleep.

When we awoke I felt like something had hit me in the back, but I quickly found out that I had slept on my fathers stele. Luckily, I wasn't hurt and it wasn't broken. Jace was already awake but wasn't moving in case he woke me up. I lay in his arms a little while longer before I got dressed. I put all of my equipment in my belt and then we were ready to go and see Sebastian.

When we had got to Sebastian he was waiting for us to arrive and he was sitting on the stone boulders with some of the other demons I noticed two in particular, Katerina Bellefleur and Felicity Heronhallow; Felicity came over to greet me and she whispered in my ear, "I am on your side no matter what." Then she gave me a kiss on my cheek. Felicity and Jace were both standing at my side looking at Sebastian.

I approached Sebastian and said, "If you thought killing Thomas was that simple, you thought wrong: me and my little brother don't go down that easy." I showed him the rune on my arm that connected me and my brother.

He looked in total disbelief then said, "If I had known that you and your brother were connected, then I could have used both of your blood. But now, I am sorry, but I am going to have to kill you."

Sebastian jumped off the rock and threw a knife at Jace but he caught it before it hit him. Sebastian ran over to me with his demons and started to attack us, but we put up a fight. Before long, 4 demons were dead, and only Sebastian was on his own side and Katerina was on our side. The only thing was that after we had finished fighting, Sebastian disappeared and was nowhere to be seen; the only person we could see was Valentine Morgernstern, who was standing only centimetres away from where Sebastian had sat on the rocks.

Valentine came over to me and started playing around with the runes on my arm. "Well, well. It seems like we have a shadowhunter warlock." I was afraid that he would ask me to do something weird. "Well, shadowhunter warlock. I want you to tell your mother Tessa that I am coming for her and her sister, and they won't see me coming, and if they do they won't know what hit them."

Then he walked off and disappeared down an alleyway. I felt completely different; I noticed there was a new rune on my arm and that it was glowing. Suddenly, I grabbed my stele and drew a healing rune over it so it covered it. After that, everything went blank.

Later that day, when I woke up, I saw that the rune was gone. I knew that the rune that Valentine had drawn on me was like the one that Lilith had draw on Jace to make him evil, but now it had been removed it couldn't turn me evil. I noticed a massive open cut on my arm; I found a candle then lit it and used a rune to protect myself from burns and infections before pouring some of the hot wax onto my skin so then it would seal the wound.

I was in the infirmary in the institute, but I didn't recognize the figure in the corner of the room. I noticed that this figure had wings, and when it started to approach me I realized that it was Ithuriel, one of Raziels angels. "Do not be afraid, young shadowhunter. I am here to tell you that you have a very rare gift and that you should use it whenever you can. You are part warlock and we have never seen that before you. You are very special in yourself and whenever you need help just summon me and I will be there. I will need nothing in return." Then he disappeared.

Later that day Jace came and saw me in the infirmary and noticed that I was doing better. "Hey Adelaide, how are you?" he asked, as he sat down on the bed next to me.

"I'm fine, what's been happening?" He shook his head.

"Nothing really, only that Isabelle isn't cooking anymore due to the fact that her food has deteriorated from bad to worse over the last couple of days. What's been going on with you?"

I shook my head. "Nothing really, the nurse said I can come out of the infirmary in a minute because I am a whole lot better, so I just need to get changed really." He laughed then gave me my clothes then waited for me to get changed.

"Feeling better now?" I nodded and then we walked down the hall towards the dining room. "Hey, Alec, what are we having for dinner?" Jace said to Alec.

"Probably take out again if someone doesn't offer to cook us something." Jace frowned.

"Maybe Adelaide will cook something for us?" I nodded.

"Yeah, I will cook something. Do you like spaghetti bolognaise?" They both looked at me with a confused face.

"What's that?" I put my finger to my nose and tapped it twice.

"I won't spoil it then." Me and Jace went to the kitchen. Jace sat down at the table and watched me make dinner.

"Oh, I almost forgot. I got a message from Magnus for you, he said that he will be coming here for a while because he wants to give you a lesson on spells or something." I just laughed.

"That's like Magnus, he only wants me when he has no one to practice spells with. Go tell the others that dinner's ready." He nodded and then walked out of the room.
