Thank you
I would like to say thank you to Cilla, Kate and Sue for very kindly proofing this story.
Also thank you Charlie, for inspiring me to write this story.
Chapter 1.
Sitting in a chair a teenager sat wearing a grey silver visor over his eyes. Two controls, one in each hand, moving a tiny stick with his fingers and pressing various buttons. On the visor the words "Game Over" were embedded into it in a silver text.
The strap holding the visor suddenly tightened, and then as if form nowhere a white light surrounded the visor, no sound, the player sat upright, body now not moving but fingers still moving on the controls.
"Are you going to come downstairs for something to eat?" the lady asks she poked her head through the crack of the door.
The boy did not answer, body motionless but fingers moving. The female opens the door wider and enters the room, walking over to the boy and tapping him on the shoulder. Still no response.
"Oh come on take this thing off and come down to get something to eat, you've been up here all day playing this thing since you got it this morning," she reached for the visor trying to lift it up, expecting her son to say something but nothing.
Trying to remove the visor from her sons head but unable too, realising that there was something wrong, "Charlie? Charlie!"
Chapter 2.
The TARDIS appeared on the corner of a street, unnoticed by the crowd gathering further up the same street. The crowd preoccupied by the events unfolding in their own homes. People running from nearly every house. Calling to friends and neighbours, or on the telephone calling the emergency services, questioning each other as to what was going on, panic setting in on each and every person form each and every house. What ever had happened it was not just one, but a number of them apparently all of them experiencing something at the same time.
"What's going on?" the Doctor said as he approached the group of people standing in the middle of the street.
More than one person spoke at once, but the Doctor tried to concentrate on one lady directly in front of him.
He raised his hand as if in school and shouted, "too many people speaking at once is as bad as too many cooks!"
The group fell silent, turning to face the lady directly in-front of him he smiled.
"My son was playing his Christmas Present and he is now just sitting there not moving, but he is still playing the game" the lady said, obvious panic in her voice.
A number of people surrounding the group all nodding in agreement, told each other that the same had indeed happened to a family member of theirs.
"I take it that this has just laterally happened?" the Doctor asked.
"Yes" the lady replied, again joined by a chorus of people agreeing with her.
"Can I see this present?" the Doctor replied?
"Why what can you do?" someone to his left asked.
"I wont know that until I see it," the Doctor replied.
"Come on," the lady directly in-front of the Doctor motioned for him to follow.
Entering her son's room it was a typical bedroom of a teenager. Posters hanging on the walls and the bed strewn with clothing but in the corner on a chair, sitting upright, facing forwards was a teenage boy wearing a visor with the words 'Game Over' in silver letters embedded into it. The boys body was motionless. Walking over to the other side of the room his mother placed her hands on his shoulders and proceeded to shake him.
