The truck bed dates became a usual for Carson and me. As soon as school let out, we raced to his truck so we could head to our spot in the mountains about 30 minutes away from our small town. In his truck the radio was turned low so we could just talk like we usually did. But today, we didn't talk. I was snuggled up to him with his right arm wrapped around me while the other rested on the steering wheel.
Once we got to our spot Carson unraveled his arm from around my shoulders, turned off his truck, and hopped out to set up the truck bed. I followed him out to the truck bed. As I reached the tailgate I looked up at Carson and my breath caught in my chest. He was too gorgeous to even be real. He looked so cute setting up the truck bed that I couldn't stop staring.
"You checking me out?" He laughed.
As per usual my face turned the color of a tomato and I couldn't answer. I looked away so he couldn't see my face. I heard his footsteps coming across the truck bed towards me but I didn't move away. He put his hand on my cheek and turned my head back facing his. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to embarrass you. I'm just kidding." He tells me."It's alright. I'm trying not to be so shy but it's not working out too great at the moment."
Carson grabbed my hand to pull me up on the truck. We sat down and leaned our backs on the back window of the truck to look over the mountains. I could feel my cheeks blazing so I looked over at Carson. He wasn't looking at the mountains, he was looking at me. Once again my cheeks flushed and I looked back over the mountains before I could embarrass myself even more. I felt Carson shuffling over towards me and he draped his left arm around my waist.
"God the view is beautiful," Carson says.
"I know, I love the mountains," I tell him.
"Oh yeah. The mountains are pretty too, but I was actually talking about you Rae." He said then kissed my cheek. I smiled and leaned into him then rested my head on his shoulder.
"I just want to stay like this forever. I don't want to leave you or this spot. I know I haven't known you for long but it feels like I've known you forever. You're the first person to take an interest in wanting to be around me in a long time and I'm so thankful for that. Really Carson thanks for being here for me."
"Raegan I don't think you notice how guys look at you in the hallways at school but they want tou. I can tell. The way they all look is like you're the most beautiful girl they've ever seen. I mean you are to me. You're by far the most beautiful girl, inside and out, I have ever met." He stopped for a moment like he was trying to get courage for what he was about to say. He countinued, "I haven't told you this but before I moved schools I didn't have many friends either. Here it's like everyone wants to be my friend and that's not me trying to he cocky. That's just what I've picked up while being here. That's why I wanted to be your friend. I could tell that in a way you're just like me and I couldn't let it get to you like it has to me before. Not having people sucks and I'm glad we have each other now. As friends." He finished.
For some reason my heart dropped to the pit of my stomach when he finished with the words friends. I liked him but I- My thoughts were cut off as Carson's phone started ringing.
"Hello?" He said. "Yeah. Alright Ma I'll be home in a bit." Then he hung up and put his phone back in his pocket. He turned to me and said, "I hate to ruin our little date or whatever but my mom just told me my sister and her husband just got home."
"Oh, well, alright, let's go then so you can see your big sis." I said as we hopped off the truck bed and gathered all the blankets and pillows to put in the truck. I walked around to the passenger side and got in the truck. Carson's phone beeped again signaling he received a text. After he read it his face went a deep red color. He coughed several times the said, "My mom wants to know if you'd like to come over also?" He asked me.
