It was chilly outside, like it had been a few hours ago. I regretted agreeing to this "walk" with Caleb solely because of how cold it was. I also regretted wearing nothing but a white tank top. I wanted to go to Spencer's car to get my winter jacket, which sounded very warm right about now, but I'm one hundred percent sure she locked the doors and I didn't want to search around Noel Kahn's property to find her to get her keys.
"So... Do you have any idea on where our destination is? Or are we just walking aimlessly in the cold." I asked as I tried to quicken my pace to catch up to him. I hadn't realized just how short my legs were until now. I was just about to ask him if he heard me, but then he pointed at an opening in the woods where it looked where someone had a campfire before. There were four logs spread out around a fire pit and we made our way over to them. I brushed the log off before sitting down, hoping little pieces of wood wouldn't get stuck to the bottom on my leggings. Caleb took a seat next to me and put some pieces of wood in the fire pit and took a lighter from his pocket and lit it. I didn't question why he had a lighter with him, I didn't really care. But I did care that in a few minutes there would finally be some sort of heat.
"So, we came all the way out here why?" I asked as I watched a few flames start to get bigger as the pieces of wood burned.
"To talk I guess, it's kind of hard to get to know someone in a crowded room full of drunk, loud people." He said with a small smile. I nodded, actually agreeing with what he said for once. It would be pretty hard to actually talk and get to know each other... But I didn't agree with freezing out here in the woods either.
"Well, ask what you want and I'll tell you." I said with a sigh, not meant to be one out of frustration.
"Hm...okay," he said, thinking about that for a minute. I had no idea what he'd ask me, God only knew with him. He just sat there with a smirk on his face, looking like he was about to ask something but he knew I'd probably slap him for it. "Are you a virgin?" He nearly busted out laughing at this question and I just stayed calm and rolled my eyes. Of course he'd ask this.
"Yes I am." I said. I thought back to the many times I had wanted to go further with my ex boyfriend Sean, but he was always against the idea. When we broke up, I was happy we didn't go further, I would've regretted it. I looked down at my leggings and waited for him to answer.
"Wow, really?" He asked, genuinely looking shocked at this new fact he found out about myself. I nodded my head. "I would've thought by now some guy would've been lucky enough to have you."
"Nope, apparently not." I said with a sigh. We both sat in silence and I watched the fire spark, bringing heat to us. I was debating on whether or not I should head back to where everyone else was, but I decided against it. I found myself actually enjoying Caleb's company, he didn't seem so bad... At least not right at this moment. I watched closely as he picked up a few sticks and threw them in the fire so it wouldn't die down. His medium length hair fell perfectly behind his ears, it was more of a shabby look but it suited him.
"So where did you live before you moved here?" I asked, breaking the silence after some time. He sat back up on the log he was previously sitting on and looked down at his dark wash jeans.
"Lots of places," he said, not looking up as he answered. "I never really had a stable house to live in, I was pushed around from different foster parents. But now I'm on my own, and I've decided to stay here." He said, taking in a deep breath, then looking over at me. I really didn't know what to say.
"That's terrible," I said, reaching over and hesitantly putting my hand on his. "If you ever need a place to stay, I can let you sleep in my basement, we have a rec room down there and nobody uses it."
"Would your mom really allow that?" He asked. I shrugged my shoulders. It's not like she'd even know he was down there, I'm sure I could sneak him in and out if I were to ask her about my idea and she doesn't agree.
"I'm sure she won't mind," I said. "Do you have a place to stay for now?"
"I'm staying with my aunt, she likes having me there... At least for now." He said. I nodded my head slowly and then looked down at the ground. I didn't know what else to say, I didn't want to be too nosey about his past life so I was trying to think of a way to change the subject. "I'm sorry if I made you feel like you had to come out here with me tonight, you can go back with your friends if you want."
"No it's okay, I'm having fun here." I said, straightening my posture. "I mean, my friends kind of ditched me anyways, they all went off with guys and left me alone." I laughed a little, thinking about the stories I'd hear about in the morning. I couldn't wait.
"Well then I guess it's a good thing I showed up tonight." He said with a smirk, back to his old self before he went into detail with his past life. That was the Caleb I knew most. The one who pestered me most of the time. "Are you cold?" He asked.
"A little, but it's okay." I said and realized the fire was slowly dimming. I watched as he took his hoodie off, pulling his t shirt up with it showing off his stomach. And boy, did I like what I was seeing. He handed me his sweater and fixed his shirt and smiled, looking at the hoodie. I sighed and put it on over my white shirt, getting a strong smell of his cologne. I was just about to thank him for the kind gesture when I was side tracked with the sound of my phone buzzing.
To: Hanna
Idk where you are.... but a bunch of us agreed to staying at Noel's cabin tonight instead of driving home. Are you good with that??? :)
From: AliI quickly typed back a response, telling here where I was.
To: Ali
I went on a walk with Caleb, I'm not far from Noel's. I'm fine with that, We can all meet back at the cabin soon!! I'm having fun btw :)
From: Hanna"Who was that?" Caleb asked when I put my phone back into my pocket, well, his pocket since it was his hoodie I was wearing.
"That was Ali, she asked if I was okay if we all stayed here tonight. I said yeah, so I'll just head back in a little while to meet them." I said. "You can stay too if you want, well I mean... Unless you don't want to or think it'll be awkward." I quickly said.
He just laughed and shook his head. "Wow, these last two hours really changed our friendship. At the beginning of the night you barely gave me a second look and now you want me to stay? Wow, Hanna Marin." He said with a smirk. I felt my cheeks get hot with embarrassment but I laughed too. "I like this Hanna."
"Soooo.... You'll stay?" I asked. He nodded his head and stood up from the log to start the fire again.
"I wouldn't pass this opportunity up," he said, coming over to sit next to me this time. "Plus we could use more time to get to know each other." He said. I nodded my head in agreement.
"Yeah, I agree, we need to get to know each other more." I said with a smile.
