"Alexandra! Wake up we have to pack up for your journey to college!" A woman said in a sing song voice.
I rolled out of my bed and groaned.
"Oh Mom, please don't call it that it really isn't a big deal."
My mom peeked into my room, "Oh yes it is! My little muffin is growing into a woman!"
She was smiling from ear to ear now and she pinched my cheeks, I let her, too tired to care. After a few minutes of her babbling about college and new beginnings and stupid stuff like that, I shooed her out of my room.
"I need to pack, remember?"
I forced a smile and she sighed, looked around, and walked out of the room her perky, green eyes now dull. I went to my closet and opened it. Piles of clothes and trophies fell to the ground and I cursed myself for not cleaning my room the night before. I grabbed my blue and white dotted suitcase and started stuffing clothes in it. Then I grabbed a huge, purple suitcase and placed some of my most precious trophies, paintings, awards and written songs inside of it. A few hours later, I was done packing and I stomped my way to the kitchen.
"How's packing going dear?" A man asked.
"Fine Dad, I just finished."
I went to the fridge and grabbed a few yogurts and the milk. After that, I grabbed a bowl of cereal from the oddly bright red cabinets and started to choke a few yogurts down.
"Oh dear, are you ever going to start acting like a lady?" My mother frowned and shook her head.
"Paul, this is all your fault you taught her how to act like a pig!" She tried to hide her smile as she glanced at my dad but he saw it and smiled too.
"Its called being a man Ava, and actually I think it suits her well." He teased and leaned in to kiss my Mom.
I covered my eyes in disgust "Oh please don't! Why are you trying to torture me!"
My dad laughed. "Oh honey I guess we could wait till she leaves for college so we'll have the house all to our selfs."
Mom and dad exchanged winks and I just looked at them in horror. Gross Dad! I ran to my room gagging. I stopped in front of my open door and almost forgot why it was so empty. Oh ya I'm on my way to college... I flopped onto my bed. "I'm going to miss this place..." I said looking around my now empty room. I sighed and started to drag my suitcases down the stairs.
"Oh hey, honey, would you put those over by the door?" My mom said smiling as wide as ever.
I glared at her as I did, forcing myself to drag my suitcases another ten feet.
"Mom, when are we going to leave?" I asked, looking for my earbuds.
"Oh it won't be very long now dear, so don't worry." She winked "I know how exciting your first day at college can be!"
"Oh, Mom, please don't -" I started.
"It was a chilly morning," She started dramatically and I groaned, "Thursday, August 12th, 2002, when I started my first year of college. The school was crowded with scents of perfume and cologne and sometimes even beer! But I didn't care I stormed right through those doors and-"
"I thought college started around August 28th." I said confused.
"Well I had just been visiting the college at the moment, you know checking out my room and everything one more time before I actually started college." My Mom said flustered. "Anyways I-"
I groaned again and knew however long it took to get out of here, was going to seem like eternity. I just wish I could find my earbuds.
