"Your uncle, Jason had a heart attack," Max's dad said bluntly. Max was shocked by the news, and by his dad said it without emotion.
"Is he okay? Max asked earnestly once his initial shock faded. Uncle Jason was his only uncle, but he was very nice to Max.
"Yes he's fine," Max's father said as Max exhaled a sigh of relief, "but he asked for you to come to see him, and he's always been very healthy." Max's dad added looking puzzled.
"What's so bad about him wanting to see me?" Max asked just as confused as his father.
"Well... it's just that your uncle has always been really distant. It started after we graduated high school." Max's dad said, his eyes growing distant. Max realized that his dad would now launch into a backstory, and Max's dad could be very dramatic. Max sighed as his father cleared his throat and dramatically said, "After we finished high school, my brother was accepted into a college called... the...the, um I don't actually know what the college is called." Max's dad finished apologetically.
"What? How can you not know the name of your brothers college?" Max asked confused.
"Well he never told me!" Max's dad exclaimed ruefully. "He was very distant, plus he barely ever visited," Max's dad finished defensively.
"But still, you should have known what your brothers college was, right? You must have gotten the letter from them." Max said still not believing that his dad didn't know the college his brother went to.
"Actually, my parents did, but they never told me instead they were very secretive about what they said to me. I kept asking about my distant brother, but noooo I wasn't supposed to know anything." Max's father finished angrily.
"I think your parents would have revealed what school your brother went to." Max retorted.
"That's not really likely," John said startling everyone, "Sometimes parents are very cryptic and vague, believe me, my parents did that all the time."
"See!," Max's dad said triumphantly, "Now we have to go, we'll stay with my brother for 2 days, and then leave. Let's go, it's a one hour drive there!" Max's parents quickly strode, out as John looked on, amused.
"They didn't even let you voice your opinion," John said smiling.
"Yeah they're... lively," Max said uncertainly. Max's mom walked in as Max finished speaking.
"Are you coming? We almost left without you, you know." Max's mother said teasingly.Max sighed and replied,
"I know, I'm coming."
