Unsimplified - Death/Life Note fanfic

"So you are saying," a voice says slowly, "that we could all drop dead at any moment?"

"Considering that I am correct and he has found what we overlooked, than yes, we could all die at any moment."

Silence takes over the fearful whispering that had been in the background. A sense of dread creeps over the room slowly, like a plague, and a girl whimpers.

"We can't die" she whispers. "Not again." Her blond hair falls forward to cover her eyes. She grips the crucifix dangling from around her neck.

"It's not that we can't die it's that we don't want to." The man talking sits awkwardly, eating a sugar cube. "It was pure chance that we were brought back to life. We shouldn't be upset when our second chance comes to an end."

"We can fix this, L!" Another girl shouts. "We can get the Life Note back from Light!"

"Kira actually" L corrects.

"Who cares if we call him Light or Kira! He can kill you all either way!" She says. "Dominic, we can find Light and get what's ours back right?"

A guy standing not far from the blond girl who had spoken before glances up. "I don't know, it's risky."

She looks frustrated. "We can't just let them die!"

Dominic sighs "I know. Lets find him and get our notebook back. We will have to use force, I doubt Light will just hand it over."

"It's dangerous" someone says.

"Kai and I aren't going to sit back and let you all die. Come on, lets go." The two head for the door, grabbing what they need. Aoife pauses. "We'll be back soon. And you will all still be here. Alive." She says firmly. Then with a click her and Dominic are gone.

"No one can guarantee that..." L says quietly. "And unfortunately we can't guarantee if you will be back here alive either...."
