Farewell, My Love

The first day of high school and I have no idea what to expect. Who would I hang out with this year? Who's actually going to school now?

I slugged myself out of my bed and to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and I looked like complete crap. My hair was a mess, around my eyes was a slight grey color, and worst of all I could taste my morning breath. Yuck.

I brushed my teeth and ran a comb through my hair before frying the heck out of it with my straightener. I opened the medicine cabinet and pulled out my eyeliner. I put a thin layer of black around my eyes trying to get it as even as possible.

I looked in the mirror one last time and fully looking at my hair. Plain black is getting old now... Maybe I'll add some purple.

I walked back to my room, over to my closet. I rummaged through all my clothes and my eyes landed on my pair of bright yellow skinny jeans and my black, blue, and yellow Asking Alexandria shirt.

I walked down the hall and down the stairs to my kitchen. I opened the fridge and grabbed a bagel and a carton of OJ. I put the bagel in the toaster, grabbed a glass, then went and sat at my table.

I poured some OJ into the glass and just sat there in the peace and quiet... Until I noticed a paper taped to the table. I picked it up and unfolded it.

'Kailen,

Went to work early. Dropped Zoie off at daycare. Get to school on time and do NOT leave the water running!

P.S. Dad's away on a business trip and I'll be at work a lot. Zoie's staying at Aunt Em's this week, so the house is yours for the week. Be careful.

Love, Mama Jo'

The whole house. To myself. What am I gonna do? I'm not a partier. Unless you count having Chad, Robbie, Logan, and Charlee over playing ping-pong and Foosball. Other than that? Nada.

I finished my OJ and headed off to school...

(Boring day... boring day... Ahh schools over!)

"So you have the whole house to yourself for a week?!" Robbie asked. Robbie was my best friend; along with Chad. Robbie Creasey and Chad Kowal. Robbie's a whole year older than Chad, Logan, Charlee, and I.

"Yeah. My dad's away for work, and my mom and Zoie are at my Aunt Emily's house."

"Oh, thank God your dad's gone." Chad yelled, "He's such an ass to everyone!’Don't play video games, don't go in the basement, don't help Zoie with her homework!'"

"My dad really isn't even on a business trip... he's cheating on my mom but he said if I told her he'd hurt Zoie next. He's a lazy free loader who lives off of women's money. He has been working at Burger King for the past 6 years." I said grabbing my skateboard from my special hiding spot in some bushes by a corner of the school.

"So how'd your mom believe him when he said that?" Robbie asked.

"She keeps thinking that one of these days he'll get a better job and become a better person because of it. Load of bull if you ask me."

"Well if you ask me it sounds like your mom is lying to herself about her husband. People do that you know, to make themselves feel better about things."

"I know."

"Dude! You guys forgot me again!" I stopped my skateboard and turned around. And there was someone I still don't want to see. Oliver Okan... He keeps trying to fit in with us but he's really just a douche. Around us he acts like he likes the same things we do but we all know that when he's alone he blasts 'Year 3000' by the Jonas Brothers. Personally... I'd rather listen to 'Back in Black' by AC/DC.

I rolled my eyes, "What do you want Oliver?"

"Well, I thought that I could come with you guys to Robbie's place today.."

"How do you know we're going to Robbie's today?" Charlee asked.

"Stalker...” Logan whisper-coughed.

"Well, everyone knows that you guys go to Robbie's on Tuesdays. You guys have band practice in his garage. Even though you don't have a singer..."

"Told you he was a stalker...” Logan whispered to me.

"Actually I'm pretty sure most of the school doesn't know that. But we gotta go. See ya 'round Oliver." Robbie said grabbing our shoulders and turning us around.

"Did I not tell you he's a stalker?" Logan said to me.

"Logan... You have an issue with stalkers."

"It's probably because they think I'm attractive." Logan said turning on diva mode and strutting like a model.

"Logan you're such a girl."

"Oh, and Kailen isn't? He's more of a girl than I am!" He said to Chad but pointing at me.

"No. Being gay doesn't mean I'm more of a girl than you are. It just means I'm more awesome!" I said sticking my tongue out at him.

"Obviously." Chad said.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked turning to Chad.

"It means whatever you want it to mean little dude."

"I'm older than you by four days."

"So? You're shorter."

"Guys... We still have a follower." Robby said pointing over his shoulder.

Sure enough, Oliver was behind us, following our every move.

"My God, is he a wanna be!" Logan whisper shouted to me.

"Only because he wants to be amazing people! At least he doesn't want to be Stacy or Daniel Wienhousse."

"Good point. God those two get on my nerves so much!"

"At least Stacy doesn't have a huge ass crush on you!" Chad chimed in.

"And Daniel keeps wanting me to play chesss wih him..." robbie whined.

"Guys can I please sing for you?"

"NO!" We all turned around and yelled in unison.

"Why?"

"Annoying" Chad said

"Prep" said Logan

"Pain in my ass." I said

"Weird" Charlee said

"Painfully too 'perfect'" Robby said.

"And overall, we said NO!" we all said in unison again.

"Okay, geez,,, Well can I atleast come along to listen?"

"Ugh... Fine." I said, starting to skate again.

"So...," I said with a mouthful of cake( Oh yeah it's Robby's mom's birthday so us guys just pig out with the cake.), "did you guys hear that there's a new kid coming on Thursday?"

"Oh, yeah!" Charlee said pointing his fork at me, "isn't he from like... Indonesia or something like that?"

"South Africa." Chad said correcting him.

"So... Not to sound bad, but are there native white people in Africa? or are they all black?"

"I think I read somewhere that some South Africans are white... Maybe it was in South America though..." Logan chimed in.

"Well if he is white then we would have a white South African guy that sounds like a normal African... Sweet..." I said.

And then, randomly, a piece of cake was shoved into m face and frosting went up my nose. My reaction? Grab my piece of cake and clobber the person who got me. I stood up and put a handful of cake into Robby's face, little did I know that his mom had been recording the whole time. They were doing a 'smack cam'.
