Chapter 1
Bex's POV
I walked through the halls making my way to the assembly room a little more than half dead thanks to Devon. He started packing to go to college the night before and he made such a huge racket, I barely got four hours of sleep. I decided to make a detour and go to the bathroom cause I still had fifteen minutes till 7:30 and i probably looked like utter trash at the moment. I walked to the sink and wiped my make-up off and re-applied it. I ran my fingers through my jet black wavy hair hoping to make my-self look decent.
I dusted my plaid skirt, tied my white GIV (Golden Institute of Virginia) button up shirt into a crop top and took one last look at my self in the mirror and grinned. I ran up the stairs hoping to make it before the bell. I stood before the large doors and opened them checking my watch, yes 7:28. I walked over to a waving Cameron. He was my best friend since I was little. In fact, he's one of my only friends. I sat next to him and he enveloped me in a huge bear hug.
"Oh god Bex I missed you so much," I hugged him back and laughed, "Oh Cam stop it your making me blush."
He chuckled and kissed my cheek after he let me go. I leaned my head on his shoulder and sighed, Cam was like a second brother to me. I've been through so much and he was one of the only people who stayed with me no matter what and I loved him for that. Cam patted my head and started playing with my hair as the principle came in looking all spiffy.
"Excuse me, would everyone quiet down please." Mrs. Principle commanded on the mic. The noise began to die down until it was completely silent other than the occasional whispers. "Hello students, welcome to the Golden Institute of Virginia. My name is Mrs. Perry and I will be your principle. For the Seniors, this is your last year until college and I want to congratulate you guys for making it this far," Cameron elbowed me and smirked, "yeah right. She's just happy she won't have to deal with us anymore." He whispered in my ear. I grinned. Who could blame her? She had me and Cameron to deal with. Partners In Crime.
"And for the Freshmen," Perry continued, "well lets just say good luck. Because your journey through high school just started and your going to need all the luck you can get. Everybody must come to class on time and in uniform and your grades must be exceptional. Try hard, stay dedicated and you will achieve your goals. Now for the rest of you, get ready for a new year, and let your time here be, magical."
The bell rang loudly unexpectedly and Mrs. Perry dismissed us with a final welcome. I hugged Cam and he kissed my head, "Don't get in trouble Missy." I pouted, "What makes you think your little miss perfect would get in trouble?"
He put his hand on his chin and pretended to think, "Hmm, I don't know maybe the fact that you visit the principle at least once a month."
I put my hand on my hips and shot back, "Excuse me? That's an insult to my intelligence. I visit the principle every week! And I think she's finally starting to warm up to me..." Cameron laughed, "Yeah, and I'm sure getting suspension 100 times a year is a good thing."
"Well I know people who do worse."
"Like who?"
"Devon."
"Oh yeah."
"Yep. I guess it runs in the family."
"But your adopted."
I froze and Cam slapped his hand on his mouth. It's true that I'm adopted, but it never bothered me much. My parents and brother treat me like real family so I never minded, but the way that Cam just said that so-straight forward just shocked me.
"It- It's okay Cammy, it's not a big deal."
I guess got he got the hint that I didn't want to talk about it because he cleared his throat, then frowned, "Bexy I told you a billion times not to call me Cammy. It sounds so girly."
"Whatever, anyway see ya." I said waving.
Cam did a half salute-half wave thing and smiled, "Love you little sis." I smiled, Cam always treated me like a little sister and I appreciated it.
