The month moved quickly and before I knew it,  Halloween was here. I was never a big fan of Halloween—I never cared to dress up in a costume—but I did enjoy the treats and decorations around the school. Despite not particularly loving the costume aspect of Halloween,  I still dressed Kronos into a shrunken Slytherin robe. I don't know if he really liked it though, he would slink through the halls glumly when I put it on him.

That day, I had Charms. On the first day I arrived to class I was shocked to see that my professor was a dwarf, but his small height didn't impede his ability to teach, he simply stood on a stack of books on top of a chair.

On this day, we went over the basics of wand waving, and Professor Flitwick taught us the motion of swish and flick.

"One of a wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation the ability to make objects fly. Uh, do you all have your feathers?"

Hermione raised her feather.

"Good. Now, uh, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, hmm? The swish and flick. Everyone?" We all picked up our wands and did the swish and flick motion saying in unison,

"Wingardium Leviosa."

"Good. And enunciate Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go then." Flitwick finished.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" I said using the swish and flick technique. It didn't work. I sighed and looked around to see how the others were doing.

"Wingardium Leviosar." I heard Ron say as he whacked the feather with his wand numerous times. Hermione put her hand out to stop Ron's whacking and said,

"Look. Stop, stop, stop. You're going to take someone's eye out."

I giggled.

"Besides, you're saying it wrong. It's Leviosa, not Leviosar," Hermione critiqued.

"You do it then if you're so clever. Go on, go on." Ron replied snobbishly. Hermione straightened up and said crisply,

"Wingardium Leviosa!" Her feather started to lift up. Ron put his head on his books dejectedly.

"Oh, well done! See here, everyone! Ms. Granger's done it! Oh, splendid!" Flitwick exclaimed.

I smiled. I heard a boy, whose name I believed was Seamus, try again.

"Wingard Levosa. Wingard-."

BOOM! I jumped in my seat and looked across the room at Seamus, whose feather exploded. He had ash all over his face, and the front of his hair was sticking up.

"I think we're going to need another feather over here, Professor," Harry said, amused. I couldn't help but laugh.

I walked back from Charms class with Harry and Ron when Seamus and another boy named Dean joined us.
