"Are you seeing a human, Jongin?" his father's voice echoed as an enormous creature appeared in front of him.
He was wearing his cloak. It was a horrendous sight - enough to give people the fright of their life.
"Father. I..."
"You are! And it is in my rules not to make any contact with a human! You, my own son, dared to break my rules!"
"But, father!" he raised his voice.
He stepped back when he saw the look of death in his eyes.
He was furious.
"You are leaving that human no matter what. It will kill you. By the time the sun rises, any physical contact with a mortal. Just a mere touch of a finger from them will be a demon's death."
Jongin knew if he wouldn't leave by now, the door to human's world would close. If that happened, he wouldn't be seeing Kyungsoo forever.
And he'd rather die than live endless life without him.
"You are worth dying for."
---
"Jongin," Kyungsoo uttered breathlessly as he stared at the said guy's smiling face.
He was radiating happiness that he couldn't put a finger on why.
It felt weird.
Kyungsoo got up from the bed and hastily threw his arms around the other's waist. "I missed you so much."
"I missed you, too," he uttered, burying his face in the crook of his neck, giving small kisses. "I want to bring you to my favorite place."
"Okay." Kyungsoo shut his eyes tight, knowing that in the next second, they were already in the said place.
"Open your eyes." he did as he was told.
There, under the full moon, stood the skyscrapers of Seoul, flickering in different colors, entertaining two pair of eyes with its beauty.
It was the place where Jongin took him when they first met. It was where he healed his bruises and cuts. It was where their first kiss happened.
Memories flooded Kyungsoo's mind like a movie. From Jongin's smile, how they first met, how he showed him his real self, how he let him enter his world, how Jongin would sneak through the window just so they could cuddle until the sun would rise. How they kissed, and how those kisses ended up with the two of them sleeping peacefully, holding each other.
Everything was too much that he cried over it.
I am weird, Kyungsoo thought to himself.
He knew everything inside him disintegrated the moment he saw Jongin shed tears with him.
He knew something was wrong. It's like they were bidding each other farewell.
"Are we okay?" Kyungsoo bit his lip, hoping that what he thought was wrong. "Please, answer me."
"We are." Jongin kissed his tears away. "I need to tell you something, I want you to understand."
"I'll try."
"Demons and humans must not have any contact, it's a rule made by my father. I assumed that you already know that," Jongin said, pulling on his hand.
"But, why?" he whispered, staring at their intertwined fingers.
"Because it will kill us. Pulling you for an embrace, kissing your lips, touching your hands just like this, will kill me."
Fear was evident in Kyungsoo's eyes. He hastily slid his hands away from Jongin but the latter never let go.
They both cried. What they had was too precious, why did it have to be them?
Kyungsoo's slender and pale shoulders shook a little. How could this thing that they had would go back to square one? Where both of them were living their lives, without each other's love.
"It's okay if you let everything go and rest at my side for just a little while. When the sun rises, follow the place where the moon gets dark, fly away then."
"Kyungsoo, I'd never regret meeting you."
"I know, I know." He pushed Jongin gently, then stepped backwards. "I don't want you to die. I want you to live even if it mea..." he choked because he was trying to hold back another batch of tears that wanted to leave his eyes.
"I..."
"This needs to stop. We have to stop."
It scared Kyungsoo when he heard Jongin's sonorous groan.
What was happening?
"J-jongin." Kyungsoo wanted to lock him inside his arms but he knew it was very dangerous for the guy. "Jongin-ah, what's happening?"
Jongin tried to smile as he staggered forward, but he just yelped in pain.
It's the worst feeling, Kyungsoo decided, watching him hurting. His heart shredded into pieces at the sight.
"Stop!" He shouted, throwing his trembling hands forward, as if signalling him not to move. "J-jongin, just go. Leave."
Jongin slowly began to fade away with the wind. It was like the dark was eating him whole.
"P-please, Jongin-ah. Live for me, please," he begged, his tears started to fall fast, replacing the old tears with new ones.
Jongin didn't listen to his plea. "How would I live, Kyungsoo? You're my life."
He shined so much that it was dazzling to Kyungsoo's eyes.
The details of his wings had been blurred and its color grew pale.
Kyungsoo knew how much Jongin was hurting, he could see it in his eyes even if he was smiling.
"Please, Kyung, just let me." It was Jongin's turn to beg. He threw himself towards the trembling man.
He felt Kyungsoo's small, cold hands grasped his back. It still felt nice, despite the pain he was feeling now, like he was burning inside.
"K-kyungsoo, here... In your arms... T-this is my favorite place."
"J-jongin-ah."
"P-please remember my smile in your heart, Kyung. Please think about it numerous times a day." He stared at his puffy, red eyes as he pulled away from the hug.
He pressed his lips on Kyungsoo's, tainted by bitter-sweet tears, one last time.
"Saranghae, Kyung," he murmured against his lips.
Then, he disappeared.
Kyungsoo cried even more.
He hadn't even said he was grateful he met Jongin.
He hadn't even said he was beyond perfect.
He hadn't even said that he loved him more than anything in this cruel world.
"Jongin! I love you!" He shouted, hoping that it would reach him.
He shivered. The coldness he was feeling had nothing to do with the cold breeze of the night air.
It was because of Jongin. His Jongin. Who left him.
Alone.
And miserable.
