Golden Hearts - Chapter One

"Here's my number!" A boy said as he slipped a note into Mia's bag. He ran off, flashed Mia a silly smile and bumped into a wall. "Oh my, are you okay?" Mia held in her laugh as she hurried over to him and helped him up. He blushed a bright red, and ran off again.
I wonder what that was about.. Mia pondered. That boy was the fifth that day. The first complimented her straight, brown hair, the second gave her a bouquet of flowers, the third read a poem he had made for her, and the fourth tried to kiss her. She was used to the constant affection from boys, but always wondered why.
Mia always thought about the flaws she had, and how much she longed for no one to notice them. Fortunately, no one could see a single flaw under the amount of make up she wore. It was normal for a teenager at Jawaii High to wear a mountain-load of make up, anyways.
And about her attitude? She simply changed herself for others' approval, no biggie. She felt it was the only way to have a chance in high school, and was relieved that she only had one year to go.
But this year, Mia had a feeling that things would be different. She just knew it. What she didn't know was, it would be more (much, much more)  than what she had in mind.
As Mia walked through the crowded halls of her high school, she waved back at the people yelling "hi" to her. Girls surrounded her and asked for selfies and for her brand of make up- but this time, Mia pushed right through the crowd to her next class. She made it to the door of the science lab, and suddenly felt a rush of blood going to her brain. Her eyes felt watery and her legs were numb. Her whole body shook like an avalanche and a rage of emotions took place in her brain. People surrounded her, again, and said things like "Are you okay?"
and "Mia, what are you doing?". Mia spun in a circle and tried to inhale air. She found it hard to breathe and felt a piercing pain in her heart. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed towards the cold floor of the school. She took one last breathe, and then her eyes were glued shut. All the sounds were echoing in her ears, and only saw one thing. Black.
