It was a dismal, dark Halloween night in Sydney, Australia. Gordon and I were walking down our street we walked down every night after dinner. Gordon and I have been best friends since the first grade. Ever since he pushed the mean girl at school, Abigail Breslin, down on the playground I knew we were going to be best friends. Gordon told me today that his friends, Robert, Thomas, and Fletcher, were going to meet us at the old, rickety house at the corner of the street. This house has been there since 1946 and it is said that an old lady named Martha was burned alive when the house burnt down on one Halloween night. It is said that every Halloween she comes back from the dead to haunt anyone who comes into the house.

Around 7:30 we all met at the spooky house. Thomas suggested that we play a game of truth or dare so Fletcher started off the game. "I dare Emma and Robert to go into the scary house," Fletcher said. I was not frightened at all but Robert, being the scaredy cat he is, was freaking out about it. Not to mention he's had a crush on me since the third grade. We walked slowly into the eerie house leaving the door open behind us. Suddenly, the door slammed shut and we were trapped inside. We tried to open the door, but it was locked. Then, we tried banging on the door and we tried everything we could but nothing would work. We then noticed the reeking smell of rotten flesh surrounding us. The bloodcurdling sounds sent shivers down our spines. Since we couldn't get out, Robert and I decided to look around.

I took out my phone and turned on my flashlight app. Immediately, Gordon stated blowing up my phone asking if I was okay. I was quick to response and told him that I was fine and that we started to look around the house. I also told him to try and find another way to get us out of this unnerving house. I turned to Robert and we started to explore. The house was covered in cobwebs and dusty bookshelves. There was a rickety staircase toward the back of the house so we started to walk toward it. Just then there was a loud creaking sound coming from behind us. Robert and I turned around cautiously and we saw Gordon running toward us. "Emma, Emma, Emma," he yelped as he picked me up. "I was so worried about you," he said choking up a little. I started to say, "Um guys, who's holding the," then I was cut off by a thundering bang. "Door," I mumbled realizing the door just slammed shut and we were all stuck in the house together. "Well I guess we should split up and try and find a way out," said Thomas. "Let's see, I will go with Thomas so Gordon and Robert, you can go with Emma," said Fletcher trailing toward the stairs. "We'll take the attic and you guys can take the downstairs," Thomas said as they both walked up the screeching staircase.

"Alright guys, let's look around," I said leading them toward the kitchen. The floor beneath us started to groan as we deliberately made our way to the kitchen. I gasped as I walked into the kitchen because it was filled with trash bags full of, well, not alive bodies. Gordon promptly embraced me in hug as we walked further through the kitchen. The kitchen seemed to go on forever. The black and white checkered walls made me a little lightheaded but Gordon had a tight grip on me so I knew I would be okay. As we walked, I turned to look at Robert and he looked a bit uncomfortable. "Robert, are you okay," I asked. "Uh, Uh, Uh yeah I'm fine," he said with a bit of uncertainty in his voice. I could tell he did not like Gordon taking care of me. I could tell he was jealous. I tried to ignore it as we continued walking through the unusually elongated kitchen.

Suddenly, we heard a roaring thud and a high pitched scream coming from the attic. I pushed away from Gordon's embrace and dashed back toward the stairs. I ran up the staircase into the the attic and I saw two streams of blood leading to the small closet. I then realized what had happened. I pushed that thought to the back of my mind as I nonchalantly walked toward the closet. I opened the door and was frightened that my idea was actually true. Lying on the floor in front of me was the deceased bodies of Fletcher and Thomas. I sank to my knees in front of them unable to grasp the idea of them being dead. Gordon and Robert came running up the stairs and found me along with the mortified bodies of Fletcher and Thomas lying on the floor. They both walked over to confront me but I was drowning in tears over the lifeless bodies in front of me.

"We have to get out of here," Robert said guiding me to stand up. Then there was a clash from behind us. We slowly turned around and the ghost of the old lady that used to live in the house was standing there staring back at us. "You will not leave this house alive," she shrieked and flew toward me with a butcher's knife. Just as she was about to stab me, Gordon leaped in front of me and blocked the knife from stabbing me but he got impaled instead. "Gordon," I shouted not ready to lose my best friend as well as Fletcher and Thomas. "Emma, we have to leave before the old lady comes back," Robert said trying to lead me toward the staircase. "No! I'm not leaving without Gordon," I said back taking Gordon's hand. "Emma, go... save yourself," Gordon faintly whispered with his last bit of breath. Gordon's eyes slowly closed and I knew he was gone for good. "Let's go," Robert said soothingly trying to calm me down. I lazily stood up and Robert guided me toward the door.

We walked outside and the place was covered with police cars and ambulances. Immediately, an officer ran up to me and loaded me with tons of questions. Because my best friends just passed away in the disturbing house, I couldn't concentrate on the interrogation. I was balling my eyes out while Robert was trying to calm me down and officers loaded me with millions of unreasonable questions. Eventually, Robert managed to calm me down and they took us to the hospital to check for wounds. They tried to save Fletcher, Thomas, and Gordon but they were already long passed breathless. I never walked down my street again ,nor did I ever go to that house again. Robert became my new guardian, essentially. He protected me and confronted me when I thought about that house or the deaths of my friends and he's been doing that ever since the incident. We're basically best friends now. That's the story of the Halloween of 2015.
