Chapter 1

She sat down at the desk of her third form class doing her first test. She stared directly at the ceiling. There was a paper on the desk. Words millions of them and many blank spaces.

"Begin" the teacher said.

She felt like her life flashed before her eyes. Not one thing on the paper made sense to her. She reached for the pen and began to write .Her writing looked like chicken scratch.

She bit the pen and began to think. She felt hopeless. She placed her head on the desk. With tears forming in her eyes; she realized that she needed help. With questions left on the test paper and little time to do them, she gave up.

"Times up!" the teacher said.

All her peers talked and laughed excitedly about the test.

"Hey Rose, how was the test?" her friend said.

"It was terrible" she responded.

Rose was only too happy to see her mother driving into the school yard.

She turned and said to Laura,

"I'll see you next week"

She bolted to the car and shut the door.

"How were the exams today?" her mother questioned.

The one question I was really hoping my mother wouldn't ask. Rose thought. I don't even know how to reply.

"OK mom" Rose said.

Rose started out the window feeling guilty because she knew it wasn't ok.
