Grace:
"I'll be home by morning."
My mom's words were circling around my head, I was dizzy as hell. I got up for a glass of water. I don't like water. I never have, but it was the only think we ever actually had in our home.
My mom didn't work. She used to be a fundraiser for Japan, but she quit because of 'too much family issues'. To be honest, I think she quit because she can't be bothered to get off her ass and help some people. Then there's my dad.
Two years ago, my dad went off on an educational trip to Sweden. He was a teacher. Well, a supply teacher. All he would ever talk about is his job. It would bored me and my mom so much sometimes, but I appreciated the fact that my dad can be bothered to work and get money to keep the family alive. Anyway. He was supposed to be coming home in two weeks. After two weeks, my dad wasn't home. And basically, that's it. We got an email from one of his work colleagues saying he'd had a skiing accident and hadn't survived. It was that simple. You'd think we'd be absolutely devastated. And quite frankly, I was. But my mom? I don't think she even gave a darn. She had been cheating on him for the past month. I wasn't meant to know, but it's not hard to realise when your mom's smooching a mystery man in the middle of the hallway whenever dad's not in.
You could say my family is very unfortunate, because really we are. My mom's brother wouldn't give us any money, nor her father. Two plain, rich, high living b******s. But you know, life doesn't always live to impress.
I turned the tap on. My feet so cold I could barely stand. Sitting down on the couch with my glass of water, I felt like the world was crowding in around me. I was drifting into a sleep. And that's when I heard the scream.
To be continued :)
