Chapter 3

May 17, 2011

Beep, beep, beep!

My alarm clock buzzed as I pulled the covers from my face and searched for the snooze button. Once I found it, my eyes had stayed open for to long to fall back asleep, so I got up and got dressed. When I finished, it was 5:45. I dressed in some simple blue jeans that were really soft. Also, I had on a baby blue t-shirt that did my eyes good. Looking in the mirror, I argued with myself whether or not to put my hair up. I decided to leave it down today and combed it.

I slowly trudged down stairs where the cereal was. As I was pouring the Cheerios into my bowl, I heard a noise from upstairs.

Beep, beep, beep, beep.

Running up the stairs, and into my room, I hit the "OFF" button before it woke up my brother.

Creeping into his room, I saw that he was still asleep, tangled up in his bed sheets. One leg stuck out as if he couldn't decide weather to keep his blanket on or throw it off. His bed is getting smaller for him as he grows. I have a much bigger room, so a queen mattress fits in it.

Walking back down the stairs, I was glad with myself that I decided to do my milk second instead of first today. I can't stand it when my Cheerios get all soggy. But I can't eat them dry either. It is hard to make me happy. I need it a certain way to make me happy.

So, when I sat back down, I poured my milk in my bowl and in a cup. After a few minutes, I began to dig in. They weren't to dry or to soggy. But they weren't perfect either. Thinking over my schedule, I planned the rest of my day.

After eating, I ran up the stairs to grab some shorts and shirt for gym. Dropping the clothing into a plastic bag and putting them in my backpack, I ran into the bathroom and started brushing my teeth. Up and down. Side to side. In little circles, I thought to myself.

I spit out my toothpaste and put away my tooth brush. By now, it is 6:30. So I have to go wakeup Joey. Walking to his room, I picked up yesterday's clothes that he for got to put in the laundry basket. I kneeled down next to his bed and gently shook him. "Wakey wakey baby kangaroo," I said to him. But, since that didn't work today, I decided to do something else. Picking him up, I brought him into the bathroom, threw his clothes into the laundry, and put him down in the tub. I could see he was starting to stir, so I put the temperature on the coldest it would go and turned on the water full blast. It started filling the tub, and Joey's eyes flashed open as he woke up. Turning off the water, I went to fetch him a towel to dry him off. This is his least favorite way to be waken up, but it is most effective.

Walking with him to his room, I turned on his television in his room and watched the weather. He wasn't very big on clothing, so I picked it out for him. I choose a Red Sox shirt and gave him a pair of jeans. While he got dressed, I went into my room to collect my items.

Down stairs, I took two dollars from my mothers wallet for lunch and made my brother a peanut butter and banana sandwich. As Joey walked down stairs, I began to cut up his apple. Joey is in kindergarten and still has snack time. He got out his lunch box and a plastic baggy for the apples. I put in the apple slices and got him a water bottle from the refrigerator.

"Don't forget to grab your coat on your way out. Daddy's sleeping from his long trip home and Momma is at work, so I'm going to drop you off and Kyle's mom is going to watch you until the bus comes to your stop and picks you two up," I told Joey as I packed everything he would need into his back pack.

I zipped up my back pack and grabbed a pop tart out of the cabinet. "Looks like your going to have to eat it at the bus stop, little kangaroo."

"That's fine with me, Rosie," he replied. He ripped open the package and took out the first pop tart. I got him an apple juice to drink with it and we started to walk down the street. Kristi and I meet up a street away from where I dropped Joey off and headed for our bus stop.

"Mornin' Rosie."

"Hello Kristi. Did your farther write back yet?"

"No, but we are expecting his letter in the mail tomorrow. It takes a while to get it to and from."

Kristi's farther works in the Navy, so she knows what it's like not to have a farther around all the time. Which is a reason why we are such great friends. Her mom works all day, so her older sister, Abbey, watches her. But she is like a mother in some ways. She's the one that signs the report cards and detention slips. She's the one who yells at her for getting a bad grade or detention. Abbey was even the one to go talk to her teachers during teacher-parent night.

We stopped at a small light-blue house. Amelia came out with her coat half-on and her back pack opened. She was stuffing a small note book into it and waving at her older brother in the door. Amelia is a smart, shy girl without anyone in her family but her energetic grandmother and her older brother. Her older brother is 21 and left collage when his parents died to look after her. Mike has talents that he could, and should, have shared with the world. At the age of 10, he built his first robot after only three lessons in technology. It was small and wasn't really useful, but it was a great start. Not even a whole year later did he build a bigger one that could do simple tasks on command. Plus he is an awesome painter. No one could doubt that. But, he stayed to look after Amelia and work in a car repair shop for money. Amelia's grandmother insisted on continuing collage while she look after her, but he wouldn't.

At the bus stop, we all sat down on the grass and chatted while we waited for Eddy, Adam, and Zac. They lived on the other side. Our bus stop is rite in between Adam and Amelia's house. Eddy lives between Adam and Zac, while Kristi lives between Amelia and I. Around 7:00, the bus came with the three boys running after it. We loaded on and the bus sat, waiting for the boys. We didn't wait long.

On the bus, I sat next to Amelia up front. Kristi sat with Adam, who was her cousin. Their birthdays were coming up, both on the same day. Except they were born about 12 hours apart. Eddy sat with Zac across from us.

As usual, the bus ride was long and noisy. Most of the seats were filled up by the time we got to the third to last stop. Amelia needed to do the English homework, so I talked to Kristi. Kristi currently had two crushes. Both of the boys are in our class. The first one is Herbert Zetto. Herbert is one of the nicest kids I know. We've hung out with him since kindergarten. I don't see why Kristi just suddenly likes him now, but it is what it is. She won't tell me what the other guy's name is just yet. She wants to wait a bit before she does. So, I'll find out in about a week.

On the last pick-up, the three most popular girls in school walked on. Emily Rose, Erin Heart, and Brittany Zim. They are rich, snotty girls who always wear their cheer leading uniforms, which makes no since to me since they only get two each. And I know there are such things as washing machines now, but still. Who would wash the same two pieces of clothing a thousand times a month? Erin has darkish blonde hair, which she almost always has straightened and put into a ponytail. Actually, they all almost always have ponytails in. She has blue eyes and was number one in her class. I should know, since I'm number six. Emily has brown hair that is naturally strait. Her eyes are a deep brown. She is tallest of the group. And Brittany is the shortest. She has the same details as Emily. But she got ginger highlights in her hair, which almost looks natural, besides the fact that they don't reach the roots.

They sat in the back seats. The three people, whom were sitting there before, got up and left to find a new seat each.

"Uggggh," I groaned to Kristi.

"I agree. They think they can get away with anything when ever their want just because they are rich and popular." She frowned and started thinking. I know when she starts thinking. Her nose gets all scrunched up and her eyebrows are pulled together. I turned around and faced the front of the bus.
