Gracie

My blue eyes twinkled at the thought of killing the Alpha of Starlight Pack. Afterall, he was the one who brutally murdered my father. The idea of taking his life was overwhelming.

I spent months training myself to destroy him. The rest of my time was dedicated to the pack I lead and my five year old sister Anne. My mother is no longer on this earth, she perished five long years ago due to Anne's birth. When my sister's eyes shined with new life, my mother's darkened with death. Though, I didn't blame Anne for my mother's death. It's not her fault, she was only a newborn.

I remember the tears my pack shed on that day. My father was a strong man, but when his mate died, his heart died too. Your mate is your other half. When you find them, you live for them. You will do anything to protect them and keep them safe. You will even sacrifice yourself for them. They are the beat to your heart.

When your beat dies, so does your heart. When your mate dies, you do too. Maybe not physically, but mentally/emotionally. Your need for living is no longer there, and you can never love again.

I have not found my mate, but I long for the hours until I find him. I have no clue who he may be, but thats the thrill of it. You never know.

I snapped out of my thought and focused on the task at hand. Rogues. There was a small group of three, and it was only me and Anne. We were all in wolf form, and my little sister was cowering behind me with tears pouring from her terrified silver eyes.

Her discomfort made a raging snarl erupt from my throat. My huge black wolf stood in a fighting position, blocking Anne from view. I lowered my head until my muzzle was hovering above the ground.

Before me stood a gray wolf, a sandy blonde wolf, and a light brown wolf. They smelled like garbage and rotten meat. Their scent tickled my insides and started the raging fire that laid inside.

They were all growling, but clearly had no battle plan. I could sense their fear and that pleased my wolf. After a moment, the sandy blonde wolf lunged at me, leaving the other two in wide-eyed amazement.

With the knowledge that Anne's little black wolf was behind me, I allowed the wolf to slam into me. I greeted his side with powerful jaws which was answered by a howl of pain. He couldn't break free of my grip, so the gray wolf jumped in to assist.

Her teeth sank into my shoulder and I released the sandy wolf to shake her off of me. She flew off and hit a maple tree with a bone-breaking thud. As she lay in a heap on the ground, I could feel the warm trickle of blood trail down my shoulder.

The last rogue ran off, leaving the gray wolf and the sandy wolf crying in pain. I turned to face Anne, her mercury eyes widened when she saw my shoulder. She mind-linked me: Gracie, you're bleeding! I gave her a small nudge with my muzzle and replied: Don't worry about me, are you okay? Her little wolf head bobbed up and down, I sighed with relief. I motioned for her to follow me.

Hours later we stumbled upon our pack grounds. Anne was curled up on my back asleep as I made my way to the Alpha Headquarters. By now, my shoulder has healed, leaving only dried blood.

My Beta and Third in Command came running to me as I walked through the doors still in my wolf form. My ears brushed the top of the six foot doorway. "Gracie, you're finally back. What happened while you were out there?" My Beta, Dalton, whispered gazing over at sleeping Anne. I moved past him and went to Anne's room.

I carefully nuzzled Anne into bed before I shifted into my human form, fully clothed. I turned, finding myself facing Dalton's massive chest. He gently wrapped his arms around me, and let out a sigh of relief. I slowly lifted my arms around his back, returning the hug. "I'm glad you made it home safely." Dalton whispered into my soft brown curls. I gave him a slight nod and closed my eyes. "Me too."

Dalton was like my brother, if I were to have one. He had all the brotherly features, he was supportive, protective, nourishing, kind, catious, caring, and we would even get into small arguments sometimes. He acted the same way towards Anne. When I was out at an Alpha Meeting, he would watch Anne for me.

We released one another and Dalton's eyes scanned me for any sign of injury. When his eyes landed on my shoulder, I winced. "Gracie, do you mind telling me what exactly happened out there today?" Dalton asked sternly. I slightly shook my head side to side. Dalton's mouth turned into a thin line of disappointment, "Will you tell me anyways?"

I sighed before I dragged him out of Anne's room and to the living room. I pushed him onto the couch before I sank in the spot beside him. I glared at Dalton before I said, "You can be a pain sometimes. Just won't take no for an answer." He glared back at me and replied, "When it comes to yours and Anne's safety, I can't. So what happened tonight?" I rolled my eyes and have him a brief summary of the past few hours.

When I finished, Dalton still wasn't satisfied. Dalton put his face in his hands, "I knew I should've gone with you." Dalton said in a muffled tone. I rubbed his back, "I'm fine, I need to know how to protect myself." I answered, he sat up and looked at me with light green eyes.

"Yeah, but you had Anne with you. What if she got hurt?" Dalton asked raising an eyebrow. Dalton knew that Anne was my world and that I would die for her. "That wouldn't of happened." I gritted out. Dalton nodded but pressed on, "But what if it did? Then what? You need to have me or someone else with you from now on. I worry about your safety." I sighed but agreed, pushing the thought of Anne being hurt out of my mind.
