Dalton
I slightly opened my eyes. I slowly sat up to find that Gracie wasn't beside me. Maybe she's already up? I yawned and lazily slid off of the cozy brown couch, placing the soft blanket that covered me on the couch beside me. I walked into to kitchen in a daze, I sleepily gazed over to the stove clock. It read 2:39AM. My line of sight shifted over to the window above the sink. Birds were chirping as bright sunlight poured in through the glass. I must've been asleep for some time.
I decided to try and mind-link Gracie to see about her location, but the connection fizzled. Something is wrong, my wolf reasoned with an edge on his voice. I nodded in agreement. The Beta and Alpha's connection is the strongest of all mind-link connections. I should have easily reached Gracie.
Anne.
I raced to Anne's bedroom only to find that her bed was empty. Only the neatly placed blankets were left. First, I wanted to panic, but I remembered the lessons Gracie's father and I had to make me a better Beta. Lesson one: Process the situation and come up with reasonable possibilities. It is two o'clock, perhaps Anne is out with the other wolf children. Anne loves to go out and meet friends. I'll search the headquarters to see if she's here, then I'll search pack grounds. I may not know what happened to Gracie, but I'll be damned if anything happens to Anne.I calmly gathered myself before I set out to search for Anne. I checked every room in the house. Twice. There wasn't any sign of her. With an aggravated sigh, I left the headquarters. Maybe we should try to mind-link Anne, she is a werewolf. We have this ability at birth. My wolf said, I gave this thought before I decided to let him procede. Anne, where are you? There was a short pause before the happy little voice of Anne buzzed through my head filling me with relief. Dalton? Why are you in my head? I shook my head and gave a little laugh, Yes, Anne, it's Dalton. I'm talking to you through mind-link. Where are you? I answered, waiting for an answer. After a pause, Anne answered, I'm playing with my friend Daisy. We're out by the swings. Did something happen? I was already on my way to the swings. I'm on my way, don't move. I'll explain as soon as I get there. Okay? I responded, my strides getting greater and greater as I manuvered through pack members.
Did something happen to Gracie? Anne's voice sounded through my head. I took a long pause, not wanting to panic Anne with the disappearance of Gracie. Dalton? Anne asked, worry in her soft voice. I took a deep breath before I replied, Gracie is missing...I'm trying my best to find her. I tried to mind-link her, but she was out of reach. I have no clue where she is. Don't worry though, I'm trying my hardest to bring her back. Don't worry, please. Anne didn't reply, for she didn't need to because her little arms were tightly wrapped around my legs. Her crying was muffled as she buried her face into my jeans.
"Oh, Anne, it'll be alright." I soothed as I picked her up off the ground. She snuggled into my chest, "Gracie's gone?" Anne cried in a question. My heart sank, "Yes, she's gone." I whispered, petting Anne's short soft brown curls. Her cries grew louder, and my heart sank farther. My determination to find Gracie was bursting out the seems, and nothing will stop me from finding her.
