Chapter 6

[Toonie's POV]

The next day, the rain stopped. In its place, there was snow. "Oh, great," I groaned to myself, "Now Villa will surely be freezing..." You're so worried about him... Maybe you should go check on him? I jumped at the random voice in my head. "....That...was...weird... But whatever, I gotta get going."[A/N: Reference to "Its Dangerous To Go Alone" by Starbomb. CAUTION: If you plan on looking it up, know that most of their songs contain cursing and sexual themes, especially this one. You've been warned.]

I got into my tunic, grabbed my sword and sheild, then walked outside. As cold as I was, I trekked on, spotting something on my doorstep. I bent down, noticing it to be my hat. I picked it up, dusted snow off of it, then put it on my head. Villa must've left it there... But why did he just leave it? Knowing him, he would've stood out here and waited. Oh wait... The snow...

Maybe you should check on him?

I jumped again at the voice. "Stop it!" I yelled at nothing in particular, then continued to walk to the Diner.

As I made it there, it seemed that just about everyone else was already there. Almost. Villa was no where to be seen.

Check. On. Him.

No! I yelled back at whatever was talking to me.

Link walked up to me holding out a scarf, "It's dangerous to go alone: take this!" [A/N: The reference here is obvious]

"Really?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"Yes, really. It's freezing out there." I took the scarf and wrapped it around my neck. "I see you got your hat back from your boyfriend."

"We're not a couple..." I fumed.

He chuckled, "Sure, whatever. Anyway, we're working on gathering supplies, such as food, special items, etcetera. Wanna help?"

"Sure," I said, starting to help pack bags for our trip.

[Meanwhile...]

[Villa's POV]

I sat on my bed, balled up in my covers, looking out the window. "Now it's snowing..." I spoke to myself, "And I can't go outside. I'd freeze to death..." I sighed, "I hope they find a way to fix this soon..."

I heard a knock at my door. I trudged downstairs -- covers still over my head -- and opened it, being met with a blast of cold air, making me close my eyes and shudder. "You look comfortable," an unfamiliar voice said.

"I-I'm not used to cold weather..." I responded, opening my eyes back. It was the boy Toon Link had called Ness. "What're you doing here?"

"I was gonna ask you the same. Mind if I come in?" I shook my head, letting him in my home, "So, shouldn't you be bothering your boyfriend?"

I played dumb, "Who?"

"Toon Link, who else? Or as you call him, Toonie."

"Oh...well....we're not..." I sighed, "I don't wanna talk about it, okay?"

"Wait.... That tone... I was just kidding. You actually like that sourpuss?"

"DON'T CALL HIM THAT." My voice suddenly turned deep and demonic, but I quickly took back control, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that. Just...don't talk about him around me...."

"Why not?"

"B-Because... Because he hATEs me! He dOESn't want ANYthing to do wITH me! You hEARd him last nIGHt!" I strained to keep my voice on one octave.

"Oh, you heard that? You know he doesn't mean most stuff he says, right? He only said that stuff to get us off his back. He doesn't really hate you, and he would never hurt a single hair on your head."

"How do you know?"

"You learn a lot about a guy after sharing a room with him."

"...what?"

"He didn't tell you? Some of us had to share rooms with each other last year. TL, Lucas and I were forced to share a room with each other. He was, I'll put this in the nicest way I can, crabby at first, but soon accepted us. When you get through all that fake bitterness in him, he's a real softie." I stayed silent, not sure how to respond."So, Newcomer," he sat on the floor, "Why do you love him?"

"Wh-What?! Why did you change the subject?"

"I've said all I can. Now I'm curious. How did you end liking your precious Toonie?"

I mumbled something unintelligible, looking down at the floor, "Well... I could tell from the start that he was acting. The things he said didn't add up with his actions. But I only started liking him....like that as of recently. In the storm yesterday, he saw me shivering and helped me out... I...I dunno, some spark ignited and...." I trailed off, thinking my reasoning to be idiotic.

"So, have you thought about confronting these feelings?"

I blushed, remembering my reckless attempt yesterday, "Yes.... I-I went for a kiss... But I sheeped out. All I got was a hug." He smelled like sea... I thought.

"Well, I think the only thing stopping you is yourself. Something tells me TL like-likes you too."

"What exactly is that 'something'?"

"Instinct. And experience. It seems he's faking hatred to cover his love. That's what I did."

I paused. It seemed reasonable... If he really didn't mean what he said last night, then there is a possibility he loves me... I grumbled, "Well I can't do much now... He's leaving soon and it's too cold out there for me to take two steps without freezing. Thanks for the info, Ness. But I think I'll wait until I'm ready to confess to him."

"Oh, well, I planned on trailing the others to Final Destination, y'know, in case they need some extra back up. I wanted to take a character or two, for company. Wanna come with?"

"Again, the weather is too cold for me to go anywhere." He paused for a moment, then shot a spark at me. As soon as it made contact, I caught on fire. "aaaAAAAAHHH-"

"Still too cold?"

Still screaming, I ran outside and jumped into a pile of snow. The snow melted as the fire was put out. I sighed, relieved. "That should keep you warm for awhile. I'll get us scarves, and we'll start following the others when they set off."

Grumbling, I stood as soon as Ness began to walk. I followed him, checking if my door was closed.

[A/N: I've decided to list the ages of the main characters. Ahem.]

Ness: 15(I've never played Earthbound, so I decided to just give an age that fits his personality in the story.)
