[woah, hey there friendship. so the positive feedback on this story is so great and honestly a little unexpected, but it makes me happy. :) I know this is a bit out of character for Adam, and honestly, at first I was going to have another character in this story take place of him. But I figured since it was inspired by an Owl City song, it should be Adam. Remember, its just fiction. I obviously don't know Adam Young as a person, so I don't know his personality to a T, though I know it well. Again, this is just a work of fiction. Hope you enjoy. (:
Also let it be known that this chapter wasn't pre-written, and it was slightly uninspired, but I didn't want to keep anyone waiting. Next few updates will be better.]
Adam's POV:
So this is what breakups were like. They were the equivalent of sitting alone in a mostly dark room lit dimly by and old lamp, writing and throwing away depressing songs that somehow turned into songs of love and redemption. Which is exactly what I happened to be doing. I groaned to myself as yet another ballad about forgetting about someone took a sharp turn and became a song of sitting around like a loner, doing nothing but pining for someone day and night. I swiped the paper from my desktop and crumpled it angrily in my hands. I tossed it in the direction of the garbage can, and watched as it hit the rim and joined the pile of trashed paper on the floor.
I rested my elbow on the desk and propped my chin in my hand. I didn't know what to do with myself right now, honestly. I felt like every plan I had for my future had come crashing down around me.
Oh, wait. It had.
For a few minutes I just sat there, drowning in my own emotions, until a knock on the door snapped me out of my thoughts. Reluctantly, I stood from my chair and walked slowly to the living room from my "office", if you could call it that. I looked out of the peephole on my door to see my two best friends, Keegan and Alex standing on the doorstep.
[A/N: ten points for pulling random names from my ass. Good one, Paige.]
"What do you want?" I called, loud enough for them to hear me through the door.
"Why don't you open the fucking door and find out?" Alex called back. I groaned and reluctantly flung open the door.
"What?" I spat as soon as they were both in view. They both looked a little taken aback, seeing as anger wasn't something I commonly displayed.
"What's got you all upset?" Keegan asked, ignoring my obvious desire to be alone and walking into the house. Alex silently followed him.
"Come in," I mumbled bitterly, shutting the door behind them.
"That doesn't answer my question," was Keegan's response as he let himself fall onto my couch. "What's bugging you?" I kicked at the carpet.
"Anna dumped me," I muttered. "She wouldn't admit it, but she just wanted money."
"Ouch," Alex said, a look of genuine sympathy crossing his face. "Man, I'm sorry. I knew how much she meant to you."
"Does this mean you're not proposing?" Keegan asked.
"Yeah, she's coming over tonight and I'm giving her the ring. Of course this means I'm not proposing, stupid."
"Offensive," he muttered.
"Well, look on the brightside!" Alex said enthusiastically.
"What bright side?" I said, falling back onto the love seat across from them. I rubbed my hands across my face and groaned. "There is no bright side."
"Oh, but there is," Alex assured me. "We have the perfect pick-me-up for you. The whole reason we came over here in the first place, the best idea for a night out we've ever had, the cherry on top of your existan-"
