Not long after the release of the single Replacement Girl, Drake was signed to YMCMB recording and he went off and made a mixtape with around 17 songs. The single off this mixtape was the song Best I Ever Had. In 2009, the song was named the "Hot Rap Song" of the year by Billboard 100. The song's popularity helped Drake decide to release So Far Gone as an EP, available for purchase. The song was nominated for two Grammy Awards; Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song.

Song: Best I Ever Had // Album: So Far Gone

The video was directed by none other, Kanye West, and the story debuted at 24 on the billboard 100 eventually rising to #2 on the charts right behind Black Eyed Peas - I Got A Feeling

Some fans liked it, but many fans were scratching their heads after the debut. Many said the clip's female basketball team did nothing but cater to the male audience without matching the theme of the song; others just thought it wasn't all that creative. And a couple of bloggers even went so far as to suggest that Kanye West sabotaged Drake's production. The following is quoted by Drake:

"I guess one thing I didn't consider is what the song personally means to a lot of women," Drake said. "To those women, I apologize. I do apologize. My intention wasn't to put anyone down. It was to make them laugh. I wanted people to see something visually different."

I wouldn't worry too much about people not liking you Drizzy. Haters gonna hate.

Next, we take a journey through what happens after this mixtape release. Drake actually doesn't release an album again for a while. Instead, he does many, many, singles and features with the YMCMB camp.

Stay tuned.
