"Welcome to Wonderland."

Two conflicting emotions passed through Alice at that moment in time: one was a feeling of hope and happiness washing over her, and the other was much colder, more sinister. It was a feeling that would eat away at her for the rest of her stay in Wonderland. It was hatred. It clawed at her heart and threatened to spill over in such large quantities that she wouldn't be able to stop it from completely taking over her.

Alice frantically looked around, trying to find the source of the hatred, trying to find who was causing her such pain. Within her viewing range, she only saw the purple floating cat and nothing more or less.

In order to forget about the pain, Alice forced herself to take large steps forward and follow the scientifically incorrect cat all the way down the cobblestone pathway. Despite her enthusiasm to explore the other areas of Wonderland, she felt each step grow slower and heavier than the last. Finally, she was forced to take short, raspy breaths while jogging in order to keep up with the strange cat. "I'm surprised," the cat mused, "that you have not yet collapsed from exhaustion." Its grin enlarged and completely stretched beyond the limits of its face causing an eerie feeling to infiltrate Alice's body.

"And why," Alice huffed, "would I be tired?" She heard a chuckle from ahead and lifted her head that was drooping towards the ground only moments before. "What!?" she snapped, trying to sound angry but only coming across as weak and drowsy.

"Nothing, nothing," the cat laughed, hiding its amusement behind its large grin. "It's only that any normal person would be dead now, but of course, you're not normal by any means." Alice found that she had no strength to respond, let alone talk. She saw the ground come closer and larger to her eyes as she heard a final thud! before she was overcome with darkness.

Alice's eyelids were heavy and refused to open, but even without her eyesight, she could get a pretty good summary of the situation she was in. She could hear voices, muffled voices. Not just one or two, but multiple people were talking, all having separate conversations of their own.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!" spoke an infuriated voice. Alice wished she could open her eyes just a little bit to see who was talking, but her body rejected the wish, and she continued to see only black. A few voices answered in response, but she couldn't make out what they said. Her frustration grew larger, and she used her newly found focus to listen intently on the words being said. She could make out a few words in the beginning and multiple phrases by the end. The only conversation she could fully make out was:
"What are we going to do? This is the ninth Alice already!" a worried voice frantically whispered.

"I'll tell you what we're not going to do, and that's tell the Red King," a voice filled with annoyance replied.

"Such a shame, she was a beauty too. The Red King would have been quite the lucky man," an amused voice murmured.

"Guys! We need to be serious here! We'll be in trouble if we don't bring the Red King an Alice by sundown!" a voice tainted with anger yelled.

"Even if that doesn't happen, he's bound to think something's up with all the holes we dug in his garden," a sarcastic voice said.

"How long did this one last?" a sixth voice questioned curiously.

"Not long enough..." the last voice responded solemnly.

'Ninth Alice? What are they talking about? And a Red King...' Her thoughts were interrupted, however, by a violent earthquake. It shook her and rattled her body. She only realized it was someone shaking her when her eyes fluttered open and landed on a boy who looked anything but calm. "Thank the Red King you're awake! I could almost see my execution being held!"
