"Masen... Why did I find you in the woods?"
My eyes widened at the question, my mind reeling on how to respond without giving anything up.
"I needed to get away, my family.... or more so my brother kicked me out because I didn't agree with him on a family matter. So that's what I did... I ran away until I couldn't run anymore. I fell asleep against a tree and then woke up here. Other than that I don't remember anything other than howling before I fell asleep," I said, shifting my glance between the people standing before me. My gaze landing on Jacob and focusing on him more so than the others.
"But that doesn't explain the woods honey, why were you running through the woods instead of on the road?" Emily asked sitting down next to me on the couch.
I wonder if she can feel how cold I am, I thought as her arm brushed against mine.
"I just took off into a random direction, I didn't really think anything through. As you can tell by my lack of luggage. I thought—" I choked down a quiet sob as tears welled in my eyes.
"Honey," she said frowning, laying a hand on my arm and rubbing my back.
"I thought that they'd come for me. I thought they'd follow me," wiping my eyes on the sleeve of the sweater I had on.
"Well good thing we found you on our morning run," Seth, the youngest looking one, spoke up. He took a few steps towards me and sat on the ground in front of me, Jacob glaring at his close proximity to me.
"Yeah, good thing," Emily replied, a smile gracing her face. One by one everyone plopped down onto the surrounding furniture in the small living room.
I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat. I felt disgusting and I started picking out individual sticks from my now knotted hair.
"Emily, do you mind if I borrowed some clothes and the shower, and then I will be out of your guys' hair," I asked timidly.
A/N I know this is incredibly short and I'm sorry. I've been super busy with school and such.
