Picture of what Alec looked like in seventh grade, above.

***********

As I walked up to school I stared sadly at the ground while chewing a granola bar that I grabbed for breakfast. As my mom loved to remind me, I often look like a cow chewing grass whenever I eat. Thanks mom.

The reason I was so sad, even though I did not really want to admit it to myself, was because Alec was gone again. We had been best friends for almost four years. We met each other on the first day of seventh grade.

I had always been sort of a loner, ever since my dad walked out on me and my dad when I was seven I haven't really opened up to new people. Why would I, when they could abandon my just as easily as my dad to me and mom?

Alec is the one person who I allowed to break the rules I so carefully made nine years ago.

The story of how we became best friends is a little odd.

I found him outside just beyond my backyard. He was lying face down and not moving.

I walked up to him slowly and once I was sure he was totally knocked out before I dragged him inside. I put him on the couch and waited for him to wake up.

My mom had a shift at the ER and I was home alone, so it was not like I had anything better to do.

Alec woke up suddenly, shooting straight up, his eyes flying open, his chest heaving. His eyes wheeled around wildly and when he just saw me in the room he calmed down. He got up from the couch said "Thank you" and ran away into the woods behind my house.

I just sat there shocked for a while and then I got mad. Couldn't the boy, whose name I didn't know, at least do more then say thank you. I mean I dragged his heavy áss all the way to my house, up the porch steps, and onto the couch. I mean the least he could do is buy me a hundred dollar gift card I mean really?

I decided that I was going to find him in school the next day and give him and piece of my mind until he finally gave me that hundred dollar gift card that I deserved

The next day I got to school my eyes were narrowed and I was ready to confront the unknown guy.

The only problem I had no idea where to find him. I know that I had seen him at least a few times at my school so I knew that he went here the question is where is he?

After looking around school for almost ten minutes I finally saw him sitting on a table outside just staring at nothing.

A marched up to him and demanded more then a thank you for dragging his áss into my house.

He looked shocked by my outright demand.

He seemed to consider it for a moment before he sarcastically said, " Red I am deeply grateful for your Majesty's' help assisting me into your castle yesterday, is there anything that her Majesty desires as payment for saving me life."

"Yes," I responded deadpan serious, "I want a hundred dollar gift card."

He just snorted and picked up his stuff and started to walk away.

"The least that you could do is tell me your name," I yelled after his retreating figure.

He spun around and said, "Alec, my name is Alec."

"My name is Dawn," I said so quietly I didn't think he would here it.

A strange look crossed his face before he responded, "See you later, Red."

"That's not my name!"

"Oh I know," he said with a slight chuckle in his voice. Then the warning bell rang and we both ran off to class in different directions.
