I don't know what time it is but a nurse wakes me and says that visiting times are over and I'll disturb Katy if I stay here any longer. Shannon's there, and apparently she's coming to take me back to Katy's. I get up and sigh and kiss Katy's forehead gently, I whisper goodbye and follow Shannon out of the hospital. I don't want to leave Katy, she means everything to me and what if something happens and..! I turn away and run back to her.
"No." Shannon says and gets a firm grip on my arm, she tugs me back.
"Get off me," I hiss and tug harder.
"Harmony, don't make this harder than it already is." Shannon says and I sigh and follow on behind her.I sigh and turn back round, following Shannon. We walk out of the hospital together. I can't decribe how I feel. Upset, lonely maybe? The car journey to Katy's house isn't far, but it's awkwardly silent. We get there in no time and I jump out the car to the front door. Shannon grabs her spare key and unlocks the house, when we go inside she goes to the living room and just flops down on the sofa- hopeless! I drag my bags upstairs, I guess I'll have to find myself a room for now. I walk along the landing to find another set of stairs, I decide to stay on the second floor for now though.
A few doors on the right is quite obviously Katy's room; there's a sign on the door saying "Werk in progress" I dump my bags and decide to take a look inside. I push the door open carefully and peer in. The room smells strongly of Purr. Katy wears her own perfume? The walls are a pale pink and the carpet is a cream colour. Her bed's a huge king sized one with a white duvet and a pink quilt on top. All around the room there is pictures of her family, her grandma, her parents and Angela and David. Then I see it, a picture of me on the wall by her bed. It's from when I was a baby, my 'mum' had exactly the same one, she must've got a copy of it.
Then, something glimmers in the light as I move. I turn around to see Katy's diary; a pink book, with what looks like thousands of diamonds sewn onto it, lying on her bed. I walk over to it, tracing my fingers along the bumps of the diamonds. I pick it up gently, it's quite heavy. I open the front cover and flick through the various pages. Suddenly, I hear the front door slam, I drop the book quickly and run out onto the landing, grabbing my bag and exiting to a room opposite. The room I entered is another bedroom, thank god. I place my bag on the bed and flop down next to it. I can hear voices downstairs, Shannon's talking to whoever came just now. I decide to unpack my stuff in this room, it's right opposite Katy's so I'll be close to her if she needs me.
I get to my Katy stuff and stop to think for a minute, what am I going to do with this? I can't really put it up, it might be awkward for Katy. I keep it in the box and shove it under my bed. I open my suitcase again and dig out my quilt that my mum-well not my real mum- made a week before her and dad died. I drape it over my bed, inhaling it's familiar smell. But then I hear footsteps coming up the stairs, I turn round as Shannon and Markus come in.
"Here she is," Shannon tells Markus excitedly,
"Whoa, you really do look like Katy don't you!" He states, I smile back politely.
"Now," Shannon turns to face me, "I need to go home, so Markus will be babysitting you tonight."
"You know, I'm thirteen, I can stay home alone." I tell her.
"Look, it's just to make Katy happy. Otherwise she'd be up all night worrying about you," Shan says and smiles. Before I can say anymore her and Markus walk out the room, closing the door behind them. I roll my eyes and listen to my iPod for a while, I still listen to Katy's music. I guess at the moment it makes me feel closer to her.
A little while later, Markus rudely bursts into my room, startling me a bit, the look on his face was priceless though. I take my headphones out, pausing my music. "Yes?" I say, rather rudely actually. Markus looks almost taken aback.
"I-I thought you were dead!" He says hysterically.
"What?"
"I called and called and called but I got no answer."
"I was listening to my iPod. Is that a crime?" I say, with as much attitude as possible. Markus sighs and walks out the room. "Hey!" I call and he turns back. "What did you want anyway?" I say sweetly.
"Oh, Katy's on the phone, she wants to speak to you. Why doesn't she have your mobile number?"
"I don't have a mobile," I mutter, barging past him and downstairs to the telephone, well where I think the telephone is, but it's not. Markus hands it to me.
"Hello?" I say quietly.
"Babes! Are you okay?" Katy says in shrill voice.
"Never better," I mutter, glaring at Markus. We get into a deep conversation for about an hour and then Katy says she has to go so we say goodbye. As soon as she's gone I slump up to my room, telling Markus I'm not hungry. I change into my night clothes and go to bed. It takes me ages to get to sleep though, I guess it's just new surroundings. But I guess I'd be used to that by now. Oh who knows?
